Awww, heck with it. If nobody else is going to do it I will. Texas Chainsaw Massacre it is. :D So MC, my 2 official nominations are:

Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) The big daddy of cut 'em & gut 'em, and inspiration for Michael, Jason, Freddy and any number of faceless, nameless killers of hapless teenagers.

The trailer: Texas Chainsaw Massacre

and

Some I eliminated because I thought they leaned towards Science Fiction more than plain Horror and Suspense (e.g., The Fly, Alien). I picked a mix of movies which flat-out scared me as a kid and movies whose style I really like :beatnik:

1. the Haunting

I only saw this once. It spoke inside my mind for days. Definitely a chiller!

In most cases when choosing a scary movie to watch, I much prefer psychological/emotional studies of horror over graphic violence which I had enough of during the Vietnam war. To this day, I hate those films or TV plots that feature people being casually, albeit ingeniously, killed; as if doing so is the perpetrator's hobby.

1. Misery I went to see it already having read the book and it still surprised me

2. The Shining All work and no play make Jack a dull boy

3. The Sixth Sense creepy. Too bad Shyamalan movies haven't had that much punch since

4. Se7en gory and disturbing, but very well done

5. The Exorcist believe it or not, I've only seen bits of it, but what I have seen totally creeps me out

6. Silence of The Lambs

7. Psycho the shower scene...classic

8. Poltergeist they're here. Plus, I still cover my eyes during the clown scene

9. The Fly

10. Carrie the scene when the girl was visiting Carrie's grave....'nuff said

so you two are going to put the Blair Witch Project pretty high on your lists? :D

No... that was one that I saw after all the hype, and I already knew it was fake, so it did nothing for me.

btw, Shawna have you watched Nosferatu (see avatar) already? ;)

Not yet! I haven't been to rent any movies at all for over a month. But it's on my list. :)

The best way to rent is from the library and their website. They have a huge selection of titles in circulation, it's free and you can keep them up to 2 years, depending on availability and demand.
