Lucky
So, choose Texas Chainsaw Massacre .... the original blood & guts (and miniscule budget) film. The Shining is my favorite all time thriller but TCM deserves a nom just for being an original.
Lucky
Awww, heck with it. If nobody else is going to do it I will. Texas Chainsaw Massacre it is. So MC, my 2 official nominations are: Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) The big daddy of cut 'em & gut 'em, and inspiration for Michael, Jason, Freddy and any number of faceless, nameless killers of hapless teenagers. The trailer: Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Wait Until Dark (1967)
Shawna
I saw that movie as a new release at the drive-in. right there with ya, sister. I remember a group of us went and sat in the back of a pick-up truck to watch it.

Ombre Vivante
1. Strange Vice Of Mrs. Wardh, The (Lo Stranho Vizio Della Signora Wardh) 2. Salem's Lot 3. Exorcist, The 4. Nightmare on Elm Street, A 5. Halloween 6. Texas Chainsaw Massacre 7. Carrie 8. Changeling 9. Eyes without a Face (Les Yeux Sans Visage) 10. Night of the Living Dead Some I eliminated because I thought they leaned towards Science Fiction more than plain Horror and Suspense (e.g., The Fly, Alien). I picked a mix of movies which flat-out scared me as a kid and movies whose style I really like

Shawna
1. The Haunting yea, Ron! Scream (I loved this one, but it was too much of a spoof of a scary movie to make it higher on my list)
berjo1429030949
I thought someone would of nominated possibly my fav, "Evil Dead." Instead, the more comical "Evil Dead 2" was nom. Oh well, here is the best I can do with the list... 1) Evil Dead 2 (because the first one should of been #1 ) 2) Halloween 3) The Changeling 4) The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 5) Psycho 6) The Silence of the Lambs 7) The Sixth Sense 8) The Shining 9) Night of the Living Dead 10) Child's Play
Steel2Velvet
yea, Ron! You and I are the only two here who appreciate that classic flick, I think. 1. the Haunting I only saw this once. It spoke inside my mind for days. Definitely a chiller! In most cases when choosing a scary movie to watch, I much prefer psychological/emotional studies of horror over graphic violence which I had enough of during the Vietnam war. To this day, I hate those films or TV plots that feature people being casually, albeit ingeniously, killed; as if doing so is the perpetrator's hobby. MindCrime
I'm sure there's a few of these nominations that I've seen before, but I don't know the title. It takes more than just reading the name for me to recognize a film.

The Shining All work and no play make Jack a dull boy 3. The Sixth Sense creepy. Too bad Shyamalan movies haven't had that much punch since 4. Se7en gory and disturbing, but very well done 5. The Exorcist believe it or not, I've only seen bits of it, but what I have seen totally creeps me out 6. Silence of The Lambs 7. Psycho the shower scene...classic 8. Poltergeist they're here. Plus, I still cover my eyes during the clown scene 9. The Fly 10. Carrie the scene when the girl was visiting Carrie's grave....'nuff said

Shawna
so you two are going to put the Blair Witch Project pretty high on your lists? No... that was one that I saw after all the hype, and I already knew it was fake, so it did nothing for me. btw, Shawna have you watched Nosferatu (see avatar) already? Not yet! I haven't been to rent any movies at all for over a month. But it's on my list.
Farin
^ that one doesn't have much gore either btw No... that was one that I saw after all the hype, and I already knew it was fake, so it did nothing for me. When I first saw it I knew it was a fake as well... I don't mind that at all in fact: [spoilerq:1]heavy spoiler[/spoilerq] [spoilera:1]I think the other films are fictional as well [/spoilera]
MindCrime
I haven't been to rent any movies at all for over a month. But it's on my list. The best way to rent is from the library and their website. They have a huge selection of titles in circulation, it's free and you can keep them up to 2 years, depending on availability and demand. Shawna
crikey. 2 years? for free? that's crazy talk. With that around it's a wonder pay rental places stay in business. On second thought, Hollywood Video has closed up, and Blockbuster is on their way, as well.
