Songs of Death

WILDFIRE

Michael Murphy

She comes down yellow mountain on a dark flat land she rides

On a pony she named Wildfire

With a whirlwind by her side

On a cold and drafty night

Oh they say she died one winter

When there came a chilling frost

And the pony she named Wildfire

Busted down his stall

In a blizzard he was lost

She ran calling Wildfire (3 times)

By the dark of the moon I planted

But there came an early snow

There's been a hoot owl howling outside my window now

For six nights in a row

She's coming for me I know

And on Wildfire we're both gonna go

We'll be riding Wildfire (3 times)

On Wildfire we're going to ride her

Gonna leave it all behind

Yes she's always shining right out of my mind

Riding Wildfire

And everyone else I've mentioned previously; thanks for the contributions. I've very much enjoyed the responses!

Here's another song that is quite descriptive on death, albeit a little hard but, hey, death IS hard! lol

Get past Blitz's introduction and the bad sound. It's the only version I can find. I regret I couldn't find the studio version which is far better. But the words still stand out. Give it a try and..."Remember here!"

Solitude ~ Overkill

Life we talk of death

Each breath comes closer to out

Of this I'm not afraid

Though I don't know what it's all about

I don't know!

Decisions that we make,

The chances that we take,

The blindness we can't fake!

Thought I knew but now I know what it's like,

To be alone...!

I know...!

I remember here!

Thought it was a dream!

I never thought I'd come to this.

Living with the fear,

Now I know what it means

Never thought it'd, end like this!

Falling with no end...

Into what I've only done to me.

With messages to send..,

Out of what I've only done to me.

Falling with no

Calling with no

Crawling to the end.

I remember here!

``````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
If y'all made it through the above, I'll mention something about death;
It's one thing to contemplate your own death or be weary of its inevitable coming. But for me, the hardest part of death is seeing those you love succumb to it and you're left with the fear of "who's next?"
The following song speaks of a man's wife that commited suicide. You can see in his eyes how much it hurt him, infinitely more than his own death would.
(I realize I've shown this video in a previous thread but the subject matter was totally different)
Emma ~ Hot Chocolate
We were together since we were five
She was so pretty
Emma was a star in everyone's eyes
And when she said she'd be a movie queen, nobody laughed
A face like an angel
She could be anything . . .
Emmaline
Emma, Emmaline
I'm gonna write your name high on that silver screen
Emmaline
Emma, Emmaline
I'm gonna make you the biggest star this world has ever seen
At seventeen we were wed
I'd work day and night to earn our daily bread
And every day Emma would go out searching for That play that never, ever came her way
You know sometimes she'd come home so depressed, I'd hear her crying in the back room, feel so distressed
And I'd remember back when she was five to the words that used to make Emmaline come alive
It was, "Emmaline
Emma, Emmaline
I'm gonna write your name high on that silver screen
Emmaline
Emma, Emmaline
I'm gonna make you the biggest star this world has ever seen"
It was a cold and dark December night when I Opened up the bedroom door to find her lying still and cold upon the bed
A love letter lying on the bedroom floor
It read, "Darling I love you but I just can't keep on living on dreams no more
I tried so very hard not to leave you alone
I just can't keep on trying no more"
Emmaline!!!!
Aaargh, Emmaline!!!
Aaargh, Emmaline!!!
Emma, Emmaline!!!
Emmaline, aaargh
Emmaline
"Knocking on the Heaven's Door" - Bob Dylan
"Keep Me In Your Heart" - Warren Zevon Last song from his final album recorded months before his death.
"P.S. You Rock My World" - Eels
"Tiger Mountain Peasant Song" - Fleet Foxes
Wanderers this morning came by
Where did they go
Graceful in the morning light
To banner fair
To follow you softly
In the cold mountain air
Through the forest
Down to your grave
Where the birds wait
And the tall grasses wave
They do not
Know you anymore
Dear shadow alive and well
How can the body die
You tell me everything
Anything true
In the town one morning I went
Staggering through premonitions of my death
I don't see anybody that dear to me
Dear shadow alive and well
How can the body die
You tell me everything
Anything true
Jesse
I don't know what I have done
I'm turning myself to a demon
I don't know what I have done
I'm turning myself to a demon
"Ocean Breathes Salty" - Modest Mouse
...Well that is that and this is this.
Will you tell me what you saw and I'll tell you what you missed,
when the ocean met the sky.
You missed when time and life shook hands and said goodbye.
When the earth folded in on itself.
And said "Good luck, for your sake I hope heaven and hell
are really there, but I wouldn't hold my breath."
You wasted life, why wouldn't you waste death?
You wasted life, why wouldn't you waste death?...
Two of them. Just a warning - the first song is creepy and has freaked out many people. Then again, it all depends what your state of mind is in. lol. Anyway, the subject matter is familiar but in my opinion, was inspired by Bob Dylan's "The Ballad of Hollis Brown." First off...
"Frankie Teardrop" by Suicide (just google the lyrics)
Frankie Teardrop
And next, "The Ballad of Hollis Brown"
You really have to hear the version by 'Nazareth'. It was their version that I first heard. Written by Dylan, just reading the lyrics alone tugs at the heart strings. Again, just google the lyrics.
Please listen to the complete version by Nazareth and their impact (music) in the latter part of the tune. You can just feel the buildup right from the start. Note: A pretty decent homemade vid.
Nazareth's "The Ballad of Hollis Brown"
And then Zimmerman's -> Bob's original version
He Stopped Loving Her Today - George Jones
He said I'll love you 'til I die
She told him you'll forget in time
As the years went slowly by
She still preyed upon his mind
He kept her picture on his wall
Went half crazy now and then
He still loved her through it all
Hoping she'd come back again
Kept some letters by his bed
Dated 1962
He had underlined in red
Every single I love you
I went to see him just today
Oh but I didn't see no tears
All dressed up to go away
First time I'd seen him smile in years
(Chorus)
He stopped loving her today
They placed a wreath upon his door
And soon they'll carry him away
He stopped loving her today
(Spoken)
You know she came to see him one last time
Oh and we all wondered if she would
And it kept running through my mind
This time he's over her for good
I'm not a firm believer towards the magnitude importance of (supposedly) singular bands/artists. Whatever floats your boat when it comes to your likes and dislikes.
True example: I'm in the low percentage of U2 cynics. I just can't stand their music and don't care if 99% of the world owns all of their albums - I'm more than elated even if I'm told I'm missing out on the best music evah.
If I say to someone, "What, you've never heard of Galactic Cowboys? Were you dwelling in a cave the last few decades?" is purely in jest. I'm just bloating because I love GC and it gives me another chance to toot their horn. :laugh:
Paul McCartney's The End Of The End, http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=9658
George Harrison's "Stuck Inside A Cloud",
Never slept so little
Never smoked so much
Lost my concentration I could
even lose my touch
Talking to myself
Crying out loud
Only I can hear me
I'm stuck inside a cloud
I made some exhibition
I lost my will to eat
The only thing that matters to me is to
touch your lotus feet
Talking to myself
Crying out loud
Only I can hear me
I'm stuck inside a cloud
Talking to myself
Crying out loud
Only I can hear me
And i'm stuck inside a cloud
Talking to myself
Crying out loud
Only I can hear me
I'm stuck inside a cloud
Never been so crazy
But I've never felt so sure
I wish I had the answer to give
Don't even have the cure
Just talking to myself crying as we part
Knowing as you leave me
I also lose my heart
Talking to myself crying as we part
Knowing as you leave me
I also lose my heart
and Hanson's "With You In Your Dreams" are my personal favorites.
If I'm gone when you wake up
Please don't cry
And if I'm gone when you wake up
It's not goodbye
Don't look back at this time as a time
Of heartbreak and distress
Remember me, remember me
'Cause I'll be with you in your dreams
Oh I'll be with you, oh oh
But If I'm gone when you wake up
Please don't cry
And if I'm gone when you wake up
Don't ask why
Don't look back at this time
As a time of heartbreak and distress
Remember me, remember me
'Cause I'll be with you in your dreams
Oh oh
Don't cry, I'm with you
Don't cry, I'm by your side
Don't cry, I'm with you
Don't cry, I'm by your side
And though my flesh is gone, whoa
I'll still be with you at all times
And although my body's gone, oh
I'll be there to comfort you at all times
Oh oh But If I'm gone when you wake up
Please don't cry
And if I'm gone when you wake up
Don't ask why
Don't look back at this time
As a time of heartbreak and distress
Remember me, remember me
'Cause I'll be with you
I'll be with you in your dreams
Oh, I'll be with you Oh
I'll be with you in your dreams
I'll be with you
I'll be with you
I don't want you to cry and weep, oh
I want you to go on living your life
I'm not sleeping an endless sleep, oh
'Cause in your heart
You have all of our good times
Oh, all of our good times
Oh oh you have
And if I'm gone when you wake up
Don't ask why
Don't look back at this time
As a time of heartbreak and distress
Remember me, remember me
'Cause I'll be with you in your dreams
Oh I'll be with you in your dreams
I'll be with you
Oh I'll be with you
I'll be with you in your dreams
I'll be with you in your dreams...
Good choices, Songfactors!
Here's one I always thought that hit death in the proverbial "jaw." Listen and more importantly, WATCH the wonderful conclusion to this great song about death.
Years of Decay ~ Overkill
I realize this song is harder than most of you are used to but I consider it along the lines of Bach or Beetlejuice! :)
Listen to the song and enjoy its marvelous conclusion . . .
Out, on this road . . . takes its toll
And you pay for everything you do
Underlights, made me blind
This place is the same as last night . . .
Out, of control . . . takes its toll
But you learn to live with your dreams
Speaking your mind to those you find
Listening to what you have to say . . .
I wouldn't change the way
I wouldn't stop the decay
Promised the world, as your world
Changed before your eyes
And the days became the weeks and the weeks the years
And no one remembers that very first day
Or how it slipped away
Forever . . . I wait, pulling in, pulling out
As the motors whine
To remind me I'm home
And i'm here to stay
As we decay . . .
Another day
Decay away
I'm goin' home, I don't know where
I'm goin' home, not far from here
Out on this road, paint this toll
Make me whole, set the stage
Fill it with anger, fill it with rage
No I don't know what's today
I know it falls in the years of decay
Self, sacrifice, everynight
And together we paid a price in blood
That spilled out through the years
And another day passes away . . .
Look to the black, drawn farther back
Look to each day, see the decay!!!
Times I've had, good and bad
Win or lose, this is what I choose...
~end~
"And I am not frightened of dying, any time will do, I
don't mind. Why should I be frightened of dying?
There's no reason for it, you've gotta go sometime."
I never said I was afraid of dying
"If you can hear this whispering you are dying."
"I never said I was frightened of dying."
This is the end
Beautiful friend
This is the end
My only friend, the end
Of our elaborate plans, the end
Of everything that stands, the end
No safety or surprise, the end
Ill never look into your eyes...again
Can you picture what will be
So limitless and free
Desperately in need...of some...strangers hand
In a...desperate land
Lost in a roman...wilderness of pain
And all the children are insane
All the children are insane
Waiting for the summer rain, yeah
Theres danger on the edge of town
Ride the kings highway, baby
Weird scenes inside the gold mine
Ride the highway west, baby
Ride the snake, ride the snake
To the lake, the ancient lake, baby
The snake is long, seven miles
Ride the snake...hes old, and his skin is cold
The west is the best
The west is the best
Get here, and well do the rest
The blue bus is callin us
The blue bus is callin us
Driver, where you taken us
The killer awoke before dawn, he put his boots on
He took a face from the ancient gallery
And he walked on down the hall
He went into the room where his sister lived, and...then he
Paid a visit to his brother, and then he
He walked on down the hall, and
And he came to a door...and he looked inside
Father, yes son, I want to kill you
Mother...i want to...******* you
Cmon baby, take a chance with us
Cmon baby, take a chance with us
Cmon baby, take a chance with us
And meet me at the back of the blue bus
Doin a blue rock
On a blue bus
Doin a blue rock
Cmon, yeah
Kill, kill, kill, kill, kill, kill
This is the end
Beautiful friend
This is the end
My only friend, the end
It hurts to set you free
But youll never follow me
The end of laughter and soft lies
The end of nights we tried to die
so much better in concert, i like the new york one :P
