skybluesky
Kiss, Chili Peppers, LL Cool J nominated for hall NEW YORK (AP) — Kiss, LL Cool J and the Red Hot Chili Peppers could be among next year's inductees at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They are part of an eclectic group of 12 acts in contention for the 2010 class. Other first-time nominees include Genesis, Jimmy Cliff, Some of the names on the ballot have been there before — Donna Summer, Darlene Love, ABBA, the Chantels, and the Stooges. Only five acts make it in. The 25th annual induction ceremony is slated for March 15 in New York City. The inductees will be announced in December. Personally I'm pulling for ABBA, The Hollies and Laura Nyro.
MindCrime
Those three should make it in then. Personally I think the Hall sees Kiss as a novelty act, which is why I think they have taken so long to get in, despite their killer live performances. MindCrime
1984 is the minimal for debut album this year, correct? There's a few others I can think of that should be eligible, or at least soon. I'm surprised the Beastie Boys didn't receive another nomination this year. Which means they will probably never get in. pinkstones
LL Cool J, as good as he is, is not rock and roll. He has no business being in there.
Farin
Run-DMC or Madonna aren't Rock'n'Roll either
Lucky
how many times have we had that discussion?? But I agree, I wouldn't have put any of those into the Rock & Roll HoF. Some musical HoF, but not Rock & Roll.
Carl
Amazing that the Red Hot Chili Peppers are now eligible. I remember when these guys were playing Punk shows wearing socks (just socks). Looking over their career, they have so much longevity and worldwide success that it will be hard to keep them out. And they actually ARE Rock and Roll. I have a feeling Laura Nyro gets in too, and that's a good thing.
skybluesky
Yeah, a very very good thing. She's an amazing songwriter and her songs have been covered by rock bands, R&B groups, and even La Babs.

skybluesky
We'll see Martin outside the HOF with an Elect Die Ärzte sign. Of course no one will be able to read it because the sign will be in German and Die Ärzte will be left out again
Farin
totally and everyone who reads it will be like "who's that Atze guy and why do you want him to die? "
phil
The Stooges and Darlene Love( she sang on so many of those Phil Spector hits in the early 60's),should be in, but I think Laura Nyro will get in. She was a great songwriter.
skybluesky
I was really surprised to see The Hollies or Laura Nyro weren't in yet. But then again so many acts that should be aren't, like my dream list of Gram Parsons Carole King (solo performer, she's in with Gerry Goffin as a songwriter) Carly Simon Bette Midler Connie Francis
MindCrime
Connie Francis I'm surprised she isn't in. She ought to be. She helped shape the woman's movement in Rock.
skybluesky
Word up MC. Does any one know if a band gets inducted do any and all members become inducted as well-ie Gram Parsons was with the Byrds in 1968 for short time, so would he technically count as a member? MindCrime
Yes, he's a member of the R&R for his time with that band, but not as a solo artist. That's part of the reason why Clapton is in so many times.
skybluesky
I was wondering because when Steely Dan was inducted, Michael McDonald wasn't, and he was a member of SD for a time. The HOF website doesn't list band members as part of the band info, at least not that I saw.

Lucky
Gram should absolutely be in there (Shannon, I'd forgotten we have GP in common!), but I doubt he'll ever be there. His body of work is too small, and is spread too thin (Byrds, International Submarine Band, Flying Burrito Brothers, and solo). Also I'm not sure about the Byrds thing, MC. He really wasn't considered a member of the band, he was actually just employed by them. Is he actually mentioned as a member with their HoF inclusion? You could be right, I'm just not sure. I certainly believe he needs to be in there. He freaking shaped an entire genre. MC Miss (gotta include the Miss) Connie Francis surely needs to be in there too. skybluesky
The Wiki link provided by Martin does not list GP with the Byrds induction, just as Michael McDonald is not listed with SD. The HOF dates eligibility 25 years post first album release, so maybe its band member policy is to include only members who actually recorded on the first album. That's just a guess though. Lucky
I'm still half awake. Who is SD that Michael MacDonald associated with? I can only think of the Doobies.
