Help Me... I know you can! : )

Hey guys, one of my recent endeavors was to volunteer for a non profit organization that helps physically and mentally disabled children and young adults. They do this through 'horse therapy' (hippotherapy). Yeah, I too am new to this concept but I saw it first hand and it is very good stuff! It is an amazing thing to see a wheelchair bound person come up with the determination to leave their wheelchair, and get on a horse!

Anyway, I need some happy songs about determination, overcoming obstacles, that I can use in a slideshow. Eventually, I would like to create slideshows of the persons horse riding therapy sessions... from beginning to end. I just need some music to put in the background.

The only song I can think of is "REACH" by Gloria Estefan.

Have any other suggestions? I know you do! ::

How about "Dreams" by Van Halen?

World turns black and white

Pictures in an empty room

Your love starts fallin' down

Better change your tune

Yeah, you reach for the golden ring

Reach for the sky

Baby, just spread your wings

We'll get higher and higher

Straight up we'll climb

We'll get higher and higher

Leave it all behind

Run, run, run away

Like a train runnin' off the track

Got the truth bein' left behind

Falls between the cracks

Standin' on broken dreams

Never losin' sight, ah

Well just spread your wings

We'll get higher and higher

Straight up we'll climb

We'll get higher and higher

Leave it all behind

So baby dry your eyes

Save all the tears you've cried

Oh, that's what dreams are made of

'Cause we belong in a world that must be strong

Oh, that's what dreams are made of

Yeah, we'll get higher and higher

Straight up we'll climb

Higher and higher

Leave it all behind

Oh, we'll get higher and higher

Who knows what we'll find?

So baby dry your eyes

Save all the tears you've cried

Oh, that's what dreams are made of

Oh baby, we belong in a world that must be strong

Oh, that's what dreams are made of

And in the end on dreams we will depend

'Cause that's what love is made of

How about this Elvis Presley movie song. Not the greatest song ever written, but it fits in nicely with what you are working on.

CONFIDENCE

Written by Sid Tepper & Roy C. Bennett]

When everyone thought the world was flat

Columbus said "It's round"

He went down in history

And America was found

'Cos

He had confidence

A little thing called confidence

There's no job too immense when you've got

Confidence

With a "C" and an "O" and an "N" and an "F"

And an "I" and a "D" and an "ENCE"

Put 'em all together and what have you got

Confidence

You'll be surprised what you can do

If you will only try

Remember the tortoise and the hare

Who had that famous race

The speedy hare wound up nowhere

And slow poke took first place

'Cos

He had confidence

A little thing called confidence

There's no job too immense when you've got

Confidence

You'll be surprised what you can do

If you will only try

How do you know that you can't ride a rainbow in the sky

You'll be surprised what you can do

If you will only try

All you need is confidence

A little thing called confidence

There's no job too immense when you've got

Confidence

With a "C" and an "O" and an "N" and an "F"

And an "I" and a "D" and an "ENCE"

Put 'em all together and what have you got

Confidence

Confi ..... Confi .... Confidence

I have two cheesy '80's ones for you

Break My Stride - Matthew Wilder

Never Surrender - Corey Hart

and a good one from the '90's

"I Believe I Can Fly" - R. Kelly

I used to think that I could not go on

And life was nothing but an awful song

But now I know the meaning of true love

I'm leaning on the everlasting arms

If I can see it, then I can do it

If I just believe it, there's nothing to it

[1] - I believe I can fly

I believe I can touch the sky

I think about it every night and day

Spread my wings and fly away

I believe I can soar

I see me running through that open door

I believe I can fly

I believe I can fly

I believe I can fly

See I was on the verge of breaking down

Sometimes silence can seem so loud

There are miracles in life I must achieve

But first I know it starts inside of me, oh

If I can see it, then I can do it

If I just believe it, there's nothing to it

[Repeat 1]

Hey, cuz I believe in me, oh

If I can see it, then I can do it

If I just believe it, there's nothing to it

[Repeat 1]

Hey, if I just spread my wings

I can fly

I can fly

I can fly, hey

If I just spread my wings

I can fly

Fly-eye-eye

If I just spread my wings (I can fly)

I can fly (I can fly)

I can fly (I can fly)

I can fly (I can fly

If I just spread my wings (I can fly)

I can fly

Jenny, for some reason, when I hear R. Kelly sing "spread my wings" it gives me the heebie jeebies! :o ::

Brian, you are the sweetest, most wonderful person! I looked around to find some songs for you and found "CHICKEN SOUP FOR THE SOUL The Triumph Of The Spirit - Songs Of Encouragement, Motivation, And Overcoming Adversity" Who would have thought there would be a CD for the Chicken Soupers? Anyway, here is the track listing for it...

I'm Still Standing - Elton John

We Are The Champions - Queen

Invincible - Pat Benatar

I Am Woman - Helen Reddy

Hold On - Wilson Phillips

Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now - McFadden & Whitehead

Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now - Starship

I Can See Clearly Now - Johnny Nash

O-o-h Child - The 5 Stairsteps

Change Myself - Todd Rundgren

Yes We Can Can - The Pointer Sisters

Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head - B.J. Thomas

Move On Up - Curtis Mayfield

My Way - Paul Anka

Jack Canfield & Mark Victor Hansen's Closing Thoughts On The Triumph Of The Spirt

Not bad, huh? And of course, I want to see the final slideshow. ::

This is a bit long overdue but THANK YOU EVERYONE for your suggestions! I LOVE THEM ALL!

Bluesboy... do you actually listen to all of the songs you suggested or do you know how to use GOOGLE better than me. Your recommendations were quite eclectic! Anyway, I LOVE the song "The Impossible Dream"!

Peaches... I bought that Cd you mentioned and surprisingly one of the songs on that CD was also being played on the radio as I drove to meet the person that is in charge of the academy. It's only a 'coincidence'... yeah right! ::

Jenny... God luv ya for mentioning 'I believe I can Fly'. That makes up for mentioning Corey Hart. I used to listen to his music! Not quite sure if that is a 'manly' thing to admit to or not.

Uncle Joe... I definately think Frank Sinatra is a good start. The songs you suggested are really good too. I had difficulty findind sound clips for 'High Hopes' but once found, I think I could put that song to use as well!

Marc... Yeah buddy, all I need is one child that appreciates good rock and roll and that song DREAMS is IN!!! boo yah!!

Scott it's understandable that 'happy and uplifting' is not your gig.

Ron, I intially discounted your suggestion, but believe it or not the founder of this 'theraputic riding academy' was herself in a wheelchair for close to ten years, after a stroke, and had to learn to walk again. So YES, I think 'Walk this Way' could be used under the right circumstances.

By the way, if anyone is an Albertson's shopper and uses the 'Albertsons Preferred Card' please PM me! The organization that I am volunteering at is non profit and through 'Albertsons Community' efforts you can easily add the place that I am volunteering at to your Albertsons card and 2% of your purchases will be donated to this organization. (Confused?? So am I! ::)

This is a good organization. I know it from my heart and soul. Even my mom-a registered nurse said that the founder of this academy was 'a strong woman' to simply be alive after a massive stroke. Most stroke victims suffer paralysis of one sort or another. To actually be walking and talking is another thing. She really does good work and I am happy to take part of it.

Hey there...try this on for style..You get what you give by the New Radicals :guitar: :coolio:

example:

When the night is falling

and you cant find the light...light

when your dreams are dying...HOLD tight

You got the music in you...dont let go.....bla bla

this world is gonna pull through

Hey Meg - Believe it or not - this is the exact song that came to my mind when I read this question. I also would suggest : AC/DC - For those about to rock we salute you!

and I Just Want to FLy by Sugar Ray. I also think the Queen song - We are the Champions is a perfect suggestion.

Brian,

First off , my apologies. New Job and long hours. I'm sorry for not responding sooner.

Yes , I have or have had most everything I suggest, depends on the post. Mostly cds and downloads and held together by musicmatch.

For example;

The Impossible Dream - I grew up in jr high and high school orchestra and band('64-'68). The majority of our set lists were 50's and 60's broadway musicals plus classical. Growing up, music played a big part.

Sinatra is essential for any film soundtrack you put together (his '50s Capitol sides and '60s Reprise sides).

I went thru my musicmatch and cd library looking for likely candidates for songs.

I tried to think of uplifting and thematic songs from many genres. Trying to picture your kids' eyes.

____

I google ok.

Hi pdxchump,

Don't know if you still have time to add a song to your song list since you started this a month ago, but I just started here a day or two ago. I think a great song would be Chestnut Mare by the Byrds. Just listen to it and you will see. It is a very uplifting song.

Hi all, thanks again for the suggestions! :coolio:

Megan, I really love your suggestion of The New Radicals "You Get What You Give." It is really upbeat and great song to work with. Thanks!

MrClick: It's NEVER too late to make a suggestion! This is an ongoing 'work in progress' and will last a long time-hopefully! ::

I was reading through the list of aforementioned songs, & it seemed that a great deal of them don't go in perfect synchronization with the benefit. One clear choice I would strongly recommend is Mike & the Mechanics ? The Living Years, if you have heard this song before Brian, you?ll most likely agree that it?s one of the most uplifting songs of all time & would work perfect for your arrangement.
