cyberjudge
Hello again. I’m DJ Ceejay and it’s time for another one of our weekly countdowns on Golden Oldies Top 40. Last week, Little Sister by reclaimed the #1 spot from Stay by Maurice Williams & the Zodiacs. Will Little Sister stay at #1? Or will it get kissed off? Stay tuned. 5 songs drop out this week: Breaking Up Is Hard to Do, which was Neil Sedaka’s top 10 breakthrough, peaking at #10; Just for Old Time's Sake by the McGuire Sisters, which just made it to #30 last week; Banana Boat Song (Day-O) by Harry Belafonte, which tallied a #23 ranking 2 weeks ago; Charlie Brown, by the Coasters, which coasted in at #36; and Johnny Angel by Shelley Fabares, which flew as high as #30. That means 5 songs are new this week: Debuting at #40 with his 1st chart hit is Curtis Lee, with Pretty Little Angel Eyes. Celebrating summertime are a pair of surfing songs at #39 and #38: At #39 are Jan & Dean with their 1st appearance on the chart, Surf City. And following at #38 is the latest song to hit our countdown by the Beach Boys, Surfin’ Safari. We’ll be hearing more from the Beach Boys a little later on. At #37 is the 1st hit by Henry Mancini, and it comes from the movie, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Moon River. And the highest debut this week is at #35 by Julie London, Cry Me a River. Sam Cooke is 1 of 3 double-digit movers, climbing 16 spots, from #38 to #22 with Chain Gang. The other 2 big movers are among our 4 new top 10’s. Leading off the top 10 this week is Booker T & the MG’s with Green Onions, up 6 positions from #16 to #10. At #9 is the biggest mover this week, up 22 notches from #31, and it becomes the 2nd top 10 for Ben E. King, Spanish Harlem. His 1st solo hit, Stand by Me made it to #2. At #7, moving up 19 slots from #26, is the 2nd top 10 for the Beach Boys, Surfer Girl. They previously hit #6 with Surfin’ U.S.A. And at #6, up 7 is the 1st hit by Solomon Burke in our countdown, Cry to Me. That leaves us at the top 3: Staying put at #3 this week is the former #1, Stay by Maurice Williams & the Zodiacs. Slipping 1 notch to #2 is last week’s #1, Little Sister by . And that means we have a new #1 again this week. The new #1 on Golden Oldies Top 40 is: Then He Kissed Me by the Crystals. So long again and thank you for joining me for another edition of Golden Oldies top 40. I’m DJ Ceejay and we’ll be back next week to count ‘em down all over again. Until next week, keep your head in the stars and keep reaching for the ground.
