furlong19 Posted August 11, 2004 Report Posted August 11, 2004 What are the best drug songs? Here's what I think are the top 5: 5) Coccaine - Eric Clapton 4) Burn one down - Ben Harper 3) Tomorrow Never Knows - Beatles 2) White Rabbit - Jefferson Airplane 1) Heroin - Velvet Underground
cosmosis Posted August 11, 2004 Report Posted August 11, 2004 heroin by the velvet undergroung. That one is surely about drugs
cosmosis Posted August 11, 2004 Report Posted August 11, 2004 oh the half-burned rock. that's nasty. great song thou
scott Posted August 11, 2004 Report Posted August 11, 2004 Dr. Robert-The Beatles Got to Get You Into My Life-The Beatles
DiggsUK Posted August 11, 2004 Report Posted August 11, 2004 You have to have 'Ebeneezer Good'. Anyone got any salmon? Regards
XXX Posted August 11, 2004 Report Posted August 11, 2004 I love - LOOOOOVE - Steely Dan. And what more do these guys write about other than drugs, booze, gambling, and women? Try this one, though: "Time Out Of Mind." That's their most overt song about drugs. "Deacon Blues" talks about drinking scotch whiskey all night long and dying behind the wheel Gotta love 'em ::
MuzikTyme Posted August 11, 2004 Report Posted August 11, 2004 Three of my favourites: *Lady Madonna - Beatles Mother's Little Helper - Stones Tamborine Man - Bob Dylan *"Friday night arrives without a suitcase Sunday morning creeping like a nun Monday's child has learned to tie his bootlace See how they run?" BTW, that four-part harmony on the word "run" is most likely my all time fav.
DiggsUK Posted August 11, 2004 Report Posted August 11, 2004 Or a whole album of 'Pills, Thrills & Bellyaches'. If you are talking drug abuse and music, check out Shaun Ryder and Bez from the Mondays! Regards
bluesboy Posted August 11, 2004 Report Posted August 11, 2004 Sister Morphine - Rolling Stones Casey Jones - Grateful Dead Don't Bogart Me - Fraternity of Man Reefer Man - Cab Calloway Minnie the Moocher - Cab Calloway Down to Stems and Seeds Again - Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen Legalize It - Peter Tosh ____ I heard Papa tell Mama, let that boy boogie-woogie ~ John Lee Hooker
cosmosis Posted August 11, 2004 Report Posted August 11, 2004 Here's another great one for the boys and girls: 'We'd Have A Riot Doing Heroin' by The Queers "We'd have a riot doing heroin. Take a needle and stick it in. We stick a spike into our skin. Yeah, we'd have a riot doing heroin." and repeat once
scott Posted August 11, 2004 Report Posted August 11, 2004 Muzik, I thought 'Lady Madonna' was about a prostitute, not drugs?
MuzikTyme Posted August 11, 2004 Report Posted August 11, 2004 I never knew a prostitute that wasn't into drugs. Maybe I should have mentioned "Hey Jude" instead. You're on the ball today.
miamisammy29 Posted August 12, 2004 Report Posted August 12, 2004 Along with Bluesboy, my vote goes to "Sister Morphine". But then again, when you're on drugs, most any song can be great......or so I'm told.
windy1 Posted August 12, 2004 Report Posted August 12, 2004 Sister Morphine - Great song. Keep Off the Grass - Steppenwolf.
Elvish Posted August 13, 2004 Report Posted August 13, 2004 Mr. Tamborine Man - Bob Dylan Needle & the Damage Done - Neil Young Needle & the Spoon and That Smell - Lynyrd Skynyrd She Talks to Angels - Black Crowes Cold Turkey - John Lennon All I can think of for now. . . ::
CarsAndKites Posted August 13, 2004 Report Posted August 13, 2004 I would totally no doubt say, heroine by the Velvet underground. I actually like it most people don't.
Ken Posted August 13, 2004 Report Posted August 13, 2004 Although I can't remember who said it, I have heard it said that doing heroin was like having your head sawed off, only a lot slower. I can't see glorifying something like that by writing about it. But the Ramones contribution to this venue would be "Chinese Rocks". Ken.
cosmosis Posted August 13, 2004 Report Posted August 13, 2004 Doesn't necessarily glorifies heroin. Velvet Underground and Lou Reed are know for singing about the darker side of drugs, unlike hippies singing about love and pretty colors. I think this song is about the addiction and depression, not about the high itself. "I don?t know just where I?m going But I?m gonna try for the kingdom, if I can ?cause it makes me feel like I?m a man When I put a spike into my vein And I?ll tell ya, things aren?t quite the same When I?m rushing on my run And I feel just like jesus? son And I guess that I just don?t know And I guess that I just don?t know I have made the big decision I?m gonna try to nullify my life ?cause when the blood begins to flow When it shoots up the dropper?s neck When I?m closing in on death And you can?t help me not, you guys And all you sweet girls with all your sweet silly talk You can all go take a walk And I guess that I just don?t know And I guess that I just don?t know I wish that I was born a thousand years ago I wish that I?d sail the darkened seas On a great big clipper ship Going from this land here to that In a sailor?s suit and cap Away from the big city Where a man can not be free Of all of the evils of this town And of himself, and those around Oh, and I guess that I just don?t know Oh, and I guess that I just don?t know Heroin, be the death of me Heroin, it?s my wife and it?s my life Because a mainer to my vein Leads to a center in my head And then I?m better off and dead Because when the smack begins to flow I really don?t care anymore About all the jim-jim?s in this town And all the politicians makin? crazy sounds And everybody puttin? everybody else down And all the dead bodies piled up in mounds ?cause when the smack begins to flow Then I really don?t care anymore Ah, when the heroin is in my blood And that blood is in my head Then thank God that I?m as good as dead Then thank your God that I?m not aware And thank God that I just don?t care And I guess I just don?t know And I guess I just don?t know"
R_Soul Posted August 13, 2004 Report Posted August 13, 2004 On drugs: "White Rabbit" "Mr. Tambourine Man" Off drugs: "Cold Turkey" Just Say 'No' To Drugs: "White Lines (Don't Don't Do It)"
Opiate Posted August 13, 2004 Report Posted August 13, 2004 Hey, yeah a good DON'T DO DRUGS song is Salvation by the Cranberries.
MuzikTyme Posted August 13, 2004 Report Posted August 13, 2004 I always got a tickle from Jim Stafford's Wildwood Weed. "We just smiled and waved, sittin' on that there sack of seeds."
