Farin
second nomination, because it's one of the most critically acclaimed debuts from the second half of this decade: White Winter Hymnal ~ Fleet Foxes (2008) Video and mp3 I was following the pack All swallowed in their coats With scarves of red tied 'round their throats To keep their little heads From fallin' in the snow And I turned 'round and there you go And, Michael, you would fall And turn the white snow red As strawberries in the summertime
Levis
Because they're more 'indie' than MGMT: Sleepyhead - Passion Pit
Levis
that's the indie-pop-ness of this decade covered. Now... Flaming Lips?
MindCrime
The Seed (2.0) -- The Roots (2002) That's the song I was looking before for but didn't know the name of it. I think I may have even posted a thread in Q&A asking about it at one time.
Viaene
My second nomination covers the riff-orientated-interpretation-of-rock-and-blues of 2000 Your Touch - The Black Keys
Levis
How have WMG not got to this video yet? They probably will, soon, so if you don't know it LISTEN TO IT NOW! Do You Realise?? - The Flaming Lips (2002) depressing video
bazooka
I had no idea The Seed 2.0 was such a characteristic-of-the-00s song! Fin already nominated that one, Zooks Oops. The Seed 2.0 is all yours, Seeker. ( bazooka believes in 'first come, first served', 'fair's fair', and all other applicable platitudes) Here's my replacement nom Institution - The Dedringers ('08)
Farin
okay, thanks anyone else wants to nominate something? (aka last chance )
MindCrime
I think Shawna was going to nominate Roger Clyne, but hasn't done so yet.
The Seeker
I was kinda hoping you'd keep Seed 2.0, bazooka But this is ok too
Levis
WAIT! I'm changing a nomination! which one should I get rid of?
Levis
Ok Sleepyhead is getting the axe for several reasons - I don't think it's that unique, my replacement song is also from 2009 and Flaming Lips are more important than Passion Pit, I think. Levis
Velvet - The Big Pink (2009) I wanted a neo-shoegaze representative and I thought about it much too much, this song was staring me in the face. The album doesn't match this one track, but this is one of those songs that is a classic already because of how it stands out against a backdrop of electro-indie-pop. It's lush, it's gorgeous, it's bringing back my favourite style of music!
TheLizard
Very nice choices... and I didn't think anyone would nominate the Hold Steady. Not only are they one of my favorite bands of the decade, they're one of my favorite of all time.
BlueAngel
A few rather mainstream songs of the 2000's I'm a little surprised weren't nominated (and which I might have supported ): "American Idiot" - Green Day (2004) "Lose Yourself" - Eminem (2002) "Clocks" - Coldplay (2002) "Beautiful Day" - U2 (2000) "Hate To Say I Told You So" - The Hives (2000) "Someday" - The Strokes (2001)

pinkstones
BTW, can I say that White Winter Hymnal is one of the best songs I've heard in a long time? I hadn't heard of the Fleet Foxes until this list and have absolutely fallen in love with it. I wish I could edit my post to move it further up my list. c_s_1987
^ The Fleet Foxes are great - I'd say Tiger Mountain Peasant Song is my favourite song of theirs. And you can update your Top Ten any time you want, just do it in another post. Edited August 15, 2009 by Guest
