Thanks ladies. :) Helen Shapiro it is Laurie. :coolio:

She was only 14 when her first British Hit went to #3 in 1961. She followed that up with two #1s, the second Walking Back To Happiness selling a million copies worldwide. It was her only charting record in the U.S. - at #100 ! (#10 in Oz).

Please have a listen to it ! Walking Back To Happiness - Helen Shapiro

Hello again. DJ Ceejay here with you for with this week’s recap on Golden Oldies Top 40.

Last week’s top 3 were;

Blue Velvet by Bobby Vinton at #3

Stay by Maurice Williams & the Zodiacs at #2,

and Little Sister by :elvis: at #1.

Who will be #1 this week. Stay right where you are. Here we go:

3 songs drop out this week:

Come Go with Me by the Dell Vikings, which made it as high as #19,

You’ve Really Got a hold on Me, a #1 song for the Miracles,

And I’m Ready, a #10 hit for Fats Domino.

That gets 3 new songs in the chart:

At #39, the Beach Boys, who had a top 10 hit with Surfin’ U.S.A. return to the countdown with (surprise, surprise) another surfing song, Surfer Girl.

Solomon Burke has his 1st chart hit at #34 with Cry to Me.

And the highest debut this week, at #31, one of 2 instrumentals in our countdown, Green Onions, by Booker T. and the MG’s. The other instrumental, Telstar by the Tornadoes, moves up 5 notches from #34 to #29.

2 songs move up at least 10 spots this week:

At Last by Etta James moves up 10 from #38 to #28.

And the biggest mover this week is Kansas City by Wilbert Harrison, up 11 positions from #33 to #22.

Only 1 new song in the top 10 this week … and it’s a re-entry:

Willie and the Hand Jive by the Johnny Otis Show peaked at #5 back in week #21. After dropping as low as #14, it rebounds this week from #13 back to #10.

That brings us to this week’s top 3.

Sliding up a notch from #4 to #3 is the highest of 2 songs by the Crystals this week, Then He Kissed Me. (Da Doo Ron Ron also makes noise on the chart this week, climbing from #39 to #30.)

At #2 is last week’s #1, Little Sister by :elvis: .

And that means that for the 4th week in a row, there is a new #1:

:drummer:

Stay by Maurice Williams & the Zodiacs.

And there you have it; this week’s edition of Golden Oldies top 40. Until next week, keep your head in the stars :stars: and keep reaching for the ground.
