Don't be surprised at the number of New songs this week. Some were just waiting to fall out. We could have had a record number entering last week with more support for each others' nominations. These should keep us going for a while ! I forecast there'll be blood in the Charts as well as on the dance floor next week with all the jockeying for positions.

:D

I think that 'WOW' is very appropriate Laurie. :)

It'll be harder to get New songs in next week, but we have plenty to work with.

Half of the Chart consists of songs that have only been in for 4 weeks or less !

YOUR FEEDBACK IS WELCOME !!!

You mean where I said I wouldn't vote down a song in it's first week in, even if I absolutely disliked it, because some people have worked hard to get it there ?

Or where I was going to discuss a rule change ? I decided against that.

Thanks Kenne. :)

And others who take a moment to share their thoughts with us about our Top 40.

..................................................

Did you see what's in the Songfacts Top Ten today ?

#5 The Banana Boat Song (Day-O) - Harry Belafonte

Maybe we had something to do with it (#24 in our Top 40) ?

Please don't tell me Harry Belafonte died. :P

Welcome back to Golden Oldies Top 40. Every week we recap the hottest hits from 1950 through 1963 as ranked by our voters’ poll on songfacts.com, from Connie Francis to Frankie Ford, Little Richard to Ricky Nelson. And the countdown rolls on:

A record 8 songs drop out of the countdown this week:

Palisades Park, by Freddie Cannon, which peaked at #14,

I Walk The Line, by Johnny Cash, which soared up to #3 in its 2nd chart run,

Jailhouse Rock, by Elvis Presley, which topped off at #6 in its 1st of 2 runs,

It's My Party, by Lesley Gore, a former #2 smash,

Poetry In Motion, by Johnny Tillotson,

Love Potion #9, a former #1 for the Clovers,

Shop Around, a #4 hit for the Miracles, and

Candy Girl by the 4 Seasons.

That means we also have a record 8 debuts in this week’s chart:

Starting at

:guitar: Number 40!

The McGuire Sisters were last in the countdown in week #4 with Sincerely, which opened the very 1st chart in the cleanup spot at #4. This week their 2nd hit bows in at #40: Just for Old Time’s Sake.

:guitar: Number 39!

The Crystals have 2 songs in this week’s countdown; later we’ll hear from them with Then He Kissed Me, and debuting at #39 is Da Doo Ron Ron.

:guitar: Number 38!

Etta James makes her first GO appearance at #38, with her signature song, At Last.

:guitar: Number 37!

Another newcomer to the chart at #37 is Johnny Mathis, who enters with Chances Are.

:guitar: Number 36!

The Coasters had a top 10 hit on GO-40 with Poison Ivy. This week they return to the chart after a 2 week- absence, coming in at #36 with Charlie Brown.

:guitar: Number 35!

The Shirelles also return to the chart after a short hiatus. Baby It’s You, written by Burt Bacharach & Hal David, peaked at #3 and was last in our chart 4 weeks ago. This week, the Shirelles reappear with a Carole King composition, Will You Love Me Tomorrow.

:guitar: Number 34!

The last instrumental hit to grace our chart was Sleepwalk by Santo & Johnny in week #6. This week, The Tornadoes make their chart debut with an instrumental, Telstar.

:guitar: Number 33!

And at #33, the first song in the countdown to mention the name of a city in the title since Marty Robbins’ El Paso in week #5 is Kansas City by Wilbert Harrison.

3 songs make double digit moves this week:

The Drifters, who previously had a top 10 hit with Up on the Roof, move up 12 slots from #39 to #27 with There Goes My Baby. The Drifters are also in the chart with Save the Last Dance for Me, which dances up 5 notches this week to a new peak of #20 in its 9th chart week.

Dee Clark and Barbara Lynn share the biggest climbs in the chart this week; Dee’s Raindrops leaps 15 notches from #40 to #25, while Barbara’s You’ll Lose a Good Thing gains 15 positions from #38 to #23.

One new song enters the top 10 this week:

Little Richard scores his 1st top 10 hit with Long Tall Sally, which moves up from #17 to #10.

Last week’s #1, Runaround Sue by Dion, drops 5 spots, down to #6, the 2nd biggest fall from the pinnacle (after You Don’t Own Me).

That brings us to the top 5:

:guitar: Number 5!

Moving up 4 spots from #9 to #5, the 1st hit for the Crests, 16 Candles.

:guitar: Number 4!

Also gaining 4 positions, from #8 to #4, it’s Then He Kissed Me by the Crystals.

:guitar: Number 3!

Holding at #3 again this week, the former #1, Blue Velvet by Bobby Vinton.

:guitar: Number 2!

Sliding up 2 from #4 to #2 is Stay by Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs.

And that brings us to another new #1 song … by the 1st artist to have 2 #1 songs on Golden Oldies Top 40:

:drummer:

“The Kingâ€, :elvis: , with Little Sister.

That’s all for this week’s edition of Golden Oldies top 40. Until next week, keep your head in the stars :stars: and keep reaching for the ground  .

I'm going to have a hard time voting for new songs next week with so many in this week. :P

Kenne, I'm thinking the same. :P The idea I was tossing around was this:

Have 10 PLUS votes (2 X 5, 2x4, 2x3, 2x2, 2x1 - 10 different songs).

5 MINUSES as usual.

5 NEW Song Nominations as usual.

To make it, a song would probably have to receive a good deal of support.

FOR NEXT WEEK ONLY.

What do you all think of that ???
