Well done Mindcrime and bazooka. :coolio: However...

Johnny Ray was 'The Prince Of Wails'. And I hate to be pedantic, but Albert Collins was 'The Iceman' (one word) and this R & B singer, who's had a lot of crossover 'Pop' Hits, is 'The Ice Man'. You're pretty good bazooka. I never even thought of Albert Collins. I expect this one to be the toughest. Or maybe #10 ?

Thanks for voting Don and Angel. :) Just Lea, bazooka, RonJon and myself to go. I'm waiting to support some NEW songs already nominated that have a chance of making it into the Top 40. There's really no point in nominating others at this stage. I'll vote early next week.

The Ice Man - He's said to have gotten the name "because of his cool demeanour while singing often intensely emotional lyrics". He was the original lead singer of a well known R & B Group. Still alive, 70 this year.

Mr.Blues - He sang a song in the late 1940s (covered by one of the Artists above) which is widely considered to be one of the first Rock & Roll songs. He died about 40 years ago.

And I do believe you are correct, Lucky. :coolio:

To be absolutely straight with you , I neither know anything nor care very much about oldies rock . I enjoy it as it's dished out to me by some DJ on the radio or a muzak , but have no lingering interest in it at all - it's immediately flushed down my mental toilet - much like music today . So , I don't think I'm the kind of player you need right now -I know my limitations. No offense ,it looks fun , and I can learn from the sidelines . Maybe later .

Last night while we were eating at Long John Silvers, the song Da Do Ron Ron came on the jukebox. I'll probably support it next week if it doesn't make it this week, but I'm scared it could kill Then He Kissed Me's potential to become a top 5 hit.

I do believe Mr Blues is Wynonie Harris.

Wynonie Harris is Mr Blues, and he did cover Good Rockin' Tonight, but the song originally belonged to Roy Brown. And no, normally I would not know this stuff, but that particular song is a particular favorite of a very good friend of mine (and yours). ;)

Thanks for voting Ron. Very Positive !!!:)

Thanks Lucky for the info on Wynonie Harris and Roy Brown.

I was sure our friend would know that one ! :)

The only version I ever heard when I was young was Elvis'. All those great old R&B songs just didn't get any airplay here, unless they were a Pop Hit also. We can thank "Rock'N'Roll" for bringing many of these great Artists to our attention.
