That's OK Lea. Half of the regulars haven't voted yet. :)

And when we do, as Kenne said last Top 40, there's a few songs that look like dropping out this week. BUT... New songs will need enough points to replace them, so now is probably the time to support others' nominations that you like !

15 Points is usually enough to get a song in, so with a bit of simple maths...

Thanks to all who have voted so far.

Thanks Ron and Jeff. :)

Give us your wrap, Posh.

I think the real reason we don't get much variety is lack of voting numbers.

I'm very thankful to all of you who do vote.

How about some more feedback !!! What do YOU think of this week's Chart ???

Lesley Gore has 2 songs in the top ten one at #2, one at #6. I find that interesting. There are some songs in the Top 40 that just need to go. They've been there forever (Louie Louie is one, I like it, but geez!)! I'm on a mission to get some new stuff in. :P;)

Yes Lucky. Let's send down some of those ones that are just taking up space week after week, sometimes being kept in by just the vote of one person.

But having said that, I'm going to try to hang on to our last song from our original Top 40, All I Have To To Is Dream, for one last week to give it 20 weeks in the Chart. But I'm not touting for votes, and won't be devastated if it doesn't.

:)

And edna. I don't mind the Arthur Alexander song, but as someone else suggested - with respect - how about trying different Timi and Dion songs ?

I'd certainly support 'Hurt' by Timi, and most other Dion songs.

:)

Lucky, Lea and Ron please note ! Johnny Angel - Shelley Fabares was very unlucky to miss out last week. It got 15 points, the same as 'Sherry', which retained the #40 spot. JA will get my 5 points again in "NEW' this week.

FYI. Louie Louie has only been on the chart for 4 weeks. Of the top 15, only You Don't Own Me has had a shorter run.

This week's "rap" will be on its way shortly.

Another week has come and gone, and now the wait is over! Return with DJ Ceejay to those thrilling songs of yesteryear. The Golden Oldies Top 40 rides again!

4 familiar favorites take their final curtain calls this week, including 2 former top 10’s:

Cathy’s Clown by the Everly Brothers cries the tears of a clown this week, ending a 16-week run which climaxed in the #10 spot.

We also don’t have Since I Don’t Have You by the Skyliners to kick around any more, as that #10 hit says farewell after a 17-week stint.

The springtime tweet of Bobby Day’s Rock-in Robin succumbs to a summer swoon, silenced after 8 weeks and a #26 peak.

And Return to Sender by Elvis gets returned to the “bubbling under†list after 6 weeks and a #29 showing.

With Return to Sender falling off the chart this week, this marks the first chart to date without at least one song from the King, Elvis Presley. Elvis, of course had as many as 10 songs in the chart in each of its 1st 2 weeks. I am sure that this will be just a momentary hiccup, and that we will soon be announcing the return of the King. Only 2 artists have been on every chart to date; we’ll reveal that answer later in our show.

4 new songs and 4 new artists make the climb to the top 40 this week:

The first debut at #38 is Neil Sedaka with Breaking Up is Hard to Do.

Doris Troy sees her first look at the top 40 at #37 with Just One Look.

The Silhouettes go to work with their 1st top 40 hit with Get a Job at #36.

And “goodness graciousâ€, at #33, the highest new song of the week is Great Balls of Fire by Jerry Lee Lewis.

No new songs enter the top 10 this week, the first time that has happened since week 12, but there is still movement within the countdown, as 3 songs make double digit jumps:

Willie and the Hand Jive by the Johnny Otis Show leaps up 10 notches from #35 to #25.

Unchain My Heart by Ray Charles shoots up 11 spots from #28 to #17.

And the Polish Prince, Bobby Vinton, soars up 13 positions from #36 to #23 with Blue Velvet.

Now before we get to the songs at the top of the charts (and to our trivia answer), since this Sunday is Father’s Day, I would like to send out this Long Distance "Daddy"-cation to honor of all of the fathers out there and to thank them for all the sacrifices they make for their families every day.

Now back to the countdown:

Shop Around by the Miracles slides up a notch from #5 to #4, making the Miracles the first act since Elvis Presley in week 1 to have 2 songs in the top 4 in the same week.

Ray Charles also moves up a slot from #4 to #3 with Georgia on My Mind, which is now in the chart for its 14th week. And Ray Charles himself has been on each and every chart since week 1, when he first appeared with I Can’t Stop Loving You; the only other artist to do so is the Everly Brothers, who are on the chart in their 19th week with “All I Have to Do Is Dreamâ€.

Lesley Gore is a bridesmaid for the 3rd straight week: 2 weeks ago she was #2 with It’s My Party; then last week and again this week, she’s at #2 with You Don’t Own Me.

And still with a stranglehold on #1 for now the 4th straight week is:

:drummer:

You’ve Really Got a Hold on Me, by the Miracles.

And there you have it, the 40 hottest oldies voted on by our crack panel (notice I didn't say panel "on crack", even if it is true), of viewers on songfacts.com. Until next week, keep your head in the stars :stars: and keep reaching for the ground. And leave your mouse right where it is. :couch:

Thanks CeeJay. Very interesting as usual, but I'd just like to clarify this:

You've Really Got A Hold On Me retained the #1 but it certainly wasn't the popular choice for the week. You Don't Own Me received + votes from five people, and You've Really Got A Hold On Me + from just one.

The late vote didn't favor You Don't Own Me, which was ahead up to there.

Both songs finished on equal points, so there's no 'stranglehold' on #1.
