Great to see one of the songs I nominated make the list. Can't disagree the choices. I will say that there is only one song from the early 60s in the list, and that's the Animals. I suppose it might have to do with the fact that maybe the late 60s were better musically. Pre-65, I think a lot of the music sounded the same. It was after the Stones put a rock edge to the British Invasion that suddenly you started seeing music with some balls, if you catch my drift.

The song discribes the thoughts we all sometimes have, that's probably why almost everybody can enjoy the song. It's personal and universal at the same time, I think.

The Beatles have made better songs imo, but I like this one. Yesterday is a bit too mellow/pop for me.

Nicely balanced ten. I'm a little surprised both my noms made it in let alone the amount votes for number 1.

And while I do personally like other Beatles songs more and they could have arguably "greater" songs, "In My Life", boasting one of the finest melodies of its era, a lovely chord progression and a sublime vocal performance, beautifully captures both the nostalgia almost everyone feels for the people and places in their past and the hope and anticipation for the things to come in the future. Viaene summed it up perfectly: personal but universal. Dylan is more of an acquired taste. And "Yesterday" although very good, IMO, is more of a lament and just doesn't have the same all-around appeal.

Sympathy for the Devil - Rolling Stones

You Really Got Me - The Kinks

I also would have voted pretty highly for these two.

That song had the most amount of points in the regular Ten, until Strawberry Fields Forever beat it out. It was also the #1 ever on the Ultimate Top Ten, so no surprise that it was number 1, or had that many votes.

The reason why I did not vote for it, was because I already knew it would go to #1 without my vote, so I could spare one slot for another song.
