Farin
Finally we return with our voyage through the decades. This time with the second part: The 1960s where British Invasion meets Motown and Political Folk meets Psychadelic Rock [spoilerq:1]You all know the rules, I'm sure[/spoilerq] [spoilera:1]You mean you don't? Well, okay, it's like this: you have to nominate 2 (two) songs from the specific decade (in this case the 1960s ) after nominating closes, chose your Top Ten of all nominations and let us worry about the rest [/spoilera] so, are you ready? . really? .. are you sure? ... alright: NOMINATE AWAY NOW!! They just have to be here On The Road Again - Canned Heat - 1968 SF link Can't Find My Way Home - Blind Faith - 1969 SF Link The widgets have the best sound quality btw. Farin
since my nominations will have next to no chance anyway, might as well give them now: Have Love, Will Travel ~ The Sonics (1965) listen strangely this band wasn't even nominated yet in the normal TTs... and (some of) you're worried we don't have anything left Pata Pata ~ Miriam Makeba (1967) listen Sat wuguga sat ju benga sat si pata pat (pata pata) Sat wuguga sat ju benga sat si pata pat (pata pata) Sat wuguga sat ju benga sat si pata pat (pata pata) Sat wuguga sat ju benga sat si pata (pata pata) Hihi ha mama, hi-a-ma sat si pata (pata pata) Hihi ha mama, hi-a-ma sat si pa (pata pata) A-hihi ha mama, hi-a-ma sat si pata pat (pata pata) A-hihi ha mama, hi-a-ma sat si pat (pata pata)
pinkstones
Crimson and Clover - Tommy James and the Shondells Get Together - The Youngbloods I've always been a fan of the late-60s, peace & love hippie music. Something about it is very spiritual.
MindCrime
Heartbreaker - Led Zeppelin 1969 (live version video) Good Lovin' - Young Rascals 1966 (bad quality audio) Edited June 2, 2009 by Guest replaced Hendrix & Doors nominations
BlueAngel
"In My Life" - The Beatles (1965) IMO their finest song, beautiful, melodic and heartbreaking. It doesn't waste a single note, second or word. The first line Lennon sings always gets me: "There are places I'll remember all my life, though some have changed..." "Like A Rolling Stone" - Bob Dylan (1965) Possibly Dylan's greatest lyrical accomplishment, a scathing indictment of a slumming rich girl matched with a great rhythm and excellent organ riffs. Jenny
These nominations are from the birth years of two people I love very much: My husband (born in 1960): Only The Lonely - Roy Orbison My sister (born in 1968): Maqgic Carpet Ride - Steppenwolf
CanAm
Fortunate Son - Creedence Clearwater Revival (1969) I think that this is one of the greatest protest songs ever written by, IMO, the greatest American band. Venus - Shocking Blue (1969) I just love, love, love this song.
Lucky
Homeward Bound ~ Simon & Garfunkel ('66) sounds like the original version to me Sympathy For The Devil ~ The Stones ('68) This live clip has Brian in it & sounds pretty fair ... there's just not much available on youtube anymore. MindCrime
there's just not much available on youtube anymore. That's why I like the alternative sites, such as DailyMotion or Google Video search for that matter, every video is still available on other web-sites. Dappled
I'm a Man - Spencer Davis Group House of the Rising Sun - Animals Live! Studio version here! In the mid-60s the Animals was the best live act. Nothing else came near as you see if you watch the NME Poll Winners Concert 1965 here! Beatles, Rolling Stones, etc did numbers on that concert and they sounded like amateurs when compared to the Animals.
edna
This is going to be the hardrest task... Mrs Robinson- Simon and Garfunkel Somebody To Love - Jefferson Airplane I am going to vote higher for other noms than mine. "In My Life" - The Beatles (1965) IMO their finest song, beautiful, melodic and heartbreaking. It doesn't waste a single note, second or word. The first line Lennon sings always gets me: "There are places I'll remember all my life, though some have changed..." This song will always be my #1... Please, I need some youtubage... bluesboy
I am going to vote higher for other noms than mine. It seems that if we want a true reading of "the best" songs of the decades, that thought shouldn't even enter your mind.
edna
It seems that if we want a true reading of "the best" songs of the decades, that thought shouldn't even enter your mind. "In My LIfe", "Venus", "Homeward Bound", "Sitting on the dock of the bay", "Like a Rolling Stone", "California Dreamin'"... hard to top them... I was going to nominate "She Loves You" - Beatles... which would have made things still harder...
RonJonSurfer
Since this is a near impossible task, I will go with the two bands that started it for me. However, I'll move ahead to the psychedelic world: And Your Bird Can Sing - The Beatles http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1XtdQTLL-XU Good Vibrations - The Beach Boys http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TCeD_6Y3GQc (I'm having Youtube sound problems, please check to make sure these work..thanks)
Lucky
Hard to top any of these songs. I don't care what anyone young or old says about the '60's, and many were before my time, but these are withuot a doubt some of the best songs ever written & recorded. If someone said I could only listen to '60's classics the rest of my life I'd be happy, the rest of my life. * Your youtubes work just fine Ron. * Edited June 3, 2009 by Guest
