That's right Lucky. The points for new songs don't accumulate like the ones already in the Chart - each week is a whole new ball game for the newies. Usually, about 15-20 points are required to get a song in.

So we have to play together Kids. ;)

Is the Site slow, or my computer ? I can't even open a PT. :P

Thanks Lars. :)

I'll use our current #1, You've Really Got A Hold On Me, as an example.

It was voted in with 23 points in week 11.

Week 12: It carried those 23 points in, and received +8 that week = 31.

Week 13: Only got +4 = 35.

Week 14: Got +16 = 51. Entered Top Ten @ #6.

Week 15: Got +10 = 61. Went to #3.

Week 16: Got +12 = 73. Reached #1.

This week: Got +4 = 77. Still #1 ( no secret I would think !).

In contrast, our #40 song this week got in with 17 votes.

So there's usually a 50/60 points spread from first to last.

.................................................

I also started a 'disinterest' penalty. If a song receives no votes in a week (for or against) it loses 2 votes; Travelin' Man this week.

And, because we are so loath to vote our 'old favorites' out, at Cyberjudge's suggestion I've adopted a 'time' penalty. Those songs that have been in over 10 weeks lose 1/2 point for each week above 10.

e.g. All I Have To Do Is Dream had been in for 16 weeks, so it automatically lost 3 points this week (1/2 X 6).

:stars:

..................................................

Now you all probably saw my Post in the Weekly Top Ten.

I'm leaving Songfacts for personal reasons, so if you want to keep this GO Top 40 going, we'll need someone who can type the Chart in PDF form. ANY VOLUNTEERS ?

I didn't see your post, Darryl, until just now. I usually go to this forum first if there's any new posts here. I'm sad if you're leaving. I don't think you know how much your presence here means to many of us. We love you, your kindness, your humor, all the work and energy you do to keep the Golden Oldies going. An advice from me: if someone disappoints me I usually think that I really don't know much about them, their lives and challenges. Their reactions are about them and not about me, so I leave them alone.

That's very kind of you Lars, and very wise. :)

We've had 14 people turn up to vote this week, which is very encouraging.

Maybe I'll just give the Top Ten away and concentrate on this. Lately I've been flat out finding 10 songs to vote for in the Ten, but here I'm right at home.

Welcome back to another fact-filled edition of Golden Oldies Top 40. I’m your host DJ Ceejay, and we’ve got a lot of ground to cover, so let’s get started.

There are 4 drop-outs from our countdown this week:

Mr. Sandman by the Chordettes, which had peaked at #36,

Hit the Road Jack by Ray Charles, which topped off at #20,

Surfin USA by the Beach Boys, which got as high as #6, and

Crazy by Patsy Cline which made it all the way to the runner-up spot at #2.

Of the 4 songs entering the chart this week, 3 are by artists with multiple songs in this week’s countdown:

The 4 Seasons enter at #40 with Candy Girl, joining Sherry, which hangs on this week at #28. Candy Girl is the 3rd entry on the chart for the 4 Seasons, who debuted on the very first chart with Big Girls Don’t Cry.

One notch ahead of them are the Drifters, who enter at #39 with Save the Last Dance for Me. The Drifters also celebrate their 15th week in the countdown for Up on the Roof, this week at #32. And lead singer Ben E. King is also still in the countdown, with his solo hit Stand by Me at #24.

The Johnny Otis Show makes its 1st chart appearance at #36 with Willie and the Hand Jive.

And the highest debut of the week at #19 is You Don’t Own Me by Lesley Gore, whom we’ll see later in the countdown with It’s My Party.

And I can already hear you all saying, what other artists have had multiple songs in the countdown in a single week. Well, I’m glad you asked. There are 7 other artists that have had multiple songs, making a total of 10 including this week’s debuts.

Pat Boone had 2 songs on the initial GO-40 chart, with Love Letters in the Sand and April Love.

Roy Orbison has 2 songs which have been together on the chart for 13 weeks and are still on the current chart: Crying, now at #12 and Only the Lonely at #22.

Chuck Berry also has 2 songs on this week’s chart as well, Johnny B. Goode at #21 and Maybelline just ahead at #20.

And the Miracles have 2 songs in the chart as well: Shop Around at #7 and last week’s #1, You’ve Really Got a Hold on Me.

2 more artists have had 3 songs on the chart at once, and 1 of those is still there:

The Everly Brothers have 3 songs on this week’s chart: All I Have to Do Is Dream at #17, Cathy’s Clown at #30 and Wake Up Little Susie at #35.

Ray Charles also had 3 songs on the chart back in week #10 with I Can’t Stop Loving You, Georgia on My Mind and Hit the Road Jack. Only 1 of these songs is still in the countdown, but in its 12th week, Georgia on My Mind climbs to its highest position yet at #5.

And of course, the artist with the most songs on the chart at once is Elvis Presley, who occupied ¼ of the chart with 10 songs in each of the 1st 2 charts:

Don’t Be Cruel, Hound Dog, All Shook Up, Hearbreak Hotel, Jailhouse Rock, Let me Be Your Teddy Bear, Are You Lonesome Tonight, Love Me Tender, It’s Now or Never, and Don’t (which was replaced in week #2 by Can’t Help Falling in Love).

The biggest movers in the countdown this week are:

Come Go with Me, up 11 slots from #40 to #29,

Dream Lover, also gaining 11 from #22 to #11, and

the biggest mover this week is I Walk the Line, which jumps 12 spots from #16 to #4, and is our only new song in the top 10 this week.

Holding at #3 is a former #1, Love Potion #9 by the Clovers, while

Sneaking up 2 places, from #4 to #2 is Lesley Gore with It’s My Party.

That means that holding again at #1 this week is:

:drummer:

You’ve Really Got a Hold on Me, by the Miracles.

That’s a rap for this week, folks. Until next week, keep your head in the stars :stars: and keep reaching for the ground. And leave your mouse right where it is, on www.songfacts.com.
