MindCrime
My favorite part is that Miracles found a spot in the top 3, and the Man in Black cracked the list. My least favorite part is that My Boyfriend's Back isn't on anymore Edited May 22, 2009 by Guest
RonJonSurfer
BTW...that is one heck of a Top 40 list.
_Laurie_
I like that too. It just amazes me that Elvis is disliked by so many here. I'm also like Edna on this....I like a few of his songs, but never really got into Elvis. I have a friend that has an "Elvis Room". She has an awesome collection of Elvis memorablilia all in one room. Lots of money in that room!....The local newspaper even did a story on her.... RonJonSurfer
I don't dislike Elvis either, but his prime pre-dated my music listening. I was born late 1958, my sister is 6 years older than me...so I started young with the Beatles. However, in a quick Elvis TT, here are my favorites: 1. Suspicious Minds 2. In the Ghetto 3. Jailhouse Rock 4. Hound Dog 5. Burning Love 6. Heartbreak Hotel 7. All Shook Up 8. Can't Help Falling In Love 9. Return To Sender 10. The Wonder of You

phil
I don't dislike Elvis, he's a music legend. I am currently reading, The Last Train To Memphis - The Rise Of Elvis Presley, by Peter Guralnick. A really great book. My problem with Elvis is the way he was managed and how his career was guided. You had this R&B lover with the great soulful voice, and they turned him into a vanilla pop star singing horrible songs. His early music is great. The overweight, Vegas Elvis is beyond sad. edna
I also like a lot some of his songs, I had heard about Elvis (I was 5, my auntie listened to Presley) but my life started with The Beatles, when I was six... I like your list, RonJon. I´ll make mine... 1. Suspicious Minds 2. The Wonder of You 3. In the Ghetto 4. You Don´t have to say you love me 5. Little Sister 6. I Need You, I Love Yopu, I Want You (right order?) 7. All Shook Up 8. Can't Help Falling In Love 9. Return To Sender 10.Jailhouse Rock

Lucky
I love him, like edna, I first heard his music through an aunt, who was a life long fan. His music is some of the earliest I remember. But he produced a lot of pure commercial pap too because of his terrible career management. My Grandma was a huge fan as well, but she loved his gospel music, and that's a big memory for me. He was terribly successful with his gospel career. I don't listen to gospel music really, but Elivis had success with his gospel albums and released 2 songs which became hits. Religion aside, these are both beautiful songs. Crying in the Chapel How Great Thou Art (waaay overproduced but wow)
OLD 55
Nice to see Elvis recognised for the versatile performer that he was. I try not to watch videos of stage performances of Elvis in his last, pathetic days. Like Phil, this saddens me. I prefer to remember the vibrant early Elvis. I also feel so sorry for him having to churn out a bunch of B Grade Movies, when he clearly loved playing to live audiences. But hey, $650,000 a Movie was mucho moola in those days. 'Colonel' Tom Parker would sign any contract for a buck.

MindCrime
It's funny how a song can be as high as #2 one week, and then disappear completely a few months later.
