"C'mom C'mon" also gets my #1 for "the perfect end to a song". :)

C'mon C'mon ~ The Von Bondies (2004) Video and mp3

As I make my way, c'mon c'mon

These better nights that seem too long

Now we grieve cause now is gone

Things were good when we were young

lesson #1 for all budding lyricists:

if you just can't seem make one line rhyme - simply add some nonsense words :D

(just kidding, it's a great song  )

thanks to those who introduced me to this band

Re the quoted lyrics: I'm not sure what you're on about, Farin. The lyrics to "C'mon, C'mon" have always made perfect sense to me. I may be way off the mark, but I have always understood the song as an observation on the wide-eyed intensity and urgency of youth- the rush, if you will- whilst acknowledging its transience. In that context, I find the merging of phrases and concepts into apparent non-sequiturs as enhancing, (rather than detracting from) the lyric, in conveying that youthful euphoria.

As regards your last point: you should pay more attention, sunshine. If I haven't nominated "C'mon, C'mon" before, I'm pretty sure I've at least recommended it, absolutely ages ago. ;)

A Search reveals:

Best Artists Of The Decade - Feb 09

Favourite Albums Of The Decade - March 06

Best American Rock - Sept 06

Best "Outros" - Nov 05 (must have been one of my earliest posts)

I could have sworn I'd nominated it years ago, but I'm blowed if I can find any evidence thereof.

after repeated listening to it I realised that it could be meant in such a way that you describe...

nevertheless I admit that my main motive for posting that was to have an 'attention getter' for my nomination, if you know what I mean ;)

I hope you understand that I simply cannot check out each and every song/band that is mentioned on the boards... I wouldn't have the time to listen to my own music otherwise :P

Where's an emoticon that cries real tears, when you need one? :(

I deprived my own nomination of a Top 10 place, by putting somebody else's - that stupid frigging "C'mon C'mon" nonsense - as my #1.

If I had put "Salivating" as either my #1 or #2 (rather than #3) it would be in there. And "Skinheads" also missed out by only 2.

Chiz chiz chiz moan. :(

many people aren't online at all on the weekends, that's why we do try to complete one round from monday to friday...

Martin is right, and usually it's no problem... most people are online more often than just once every 48 hours. Lately I've been trying to keep voting open a little longer than usual too; I don't know if it's making much of a difference though.

Chiz chiz moan I guess! I think a couple of us may have thought more highly of your nomination than you did. I would have like seeing The Broken Family Band get a second song into the Ten! ;)

Nice list, but it could have been better. If at least one of my noms had made it. ;)

Not one of my favorite Stones songs either to be honest MC.

I am happy CCR made it in and am surprised that the Eagles song got next to no votes. It's one of my favorites by them :D

Nice list this week

Good on you Lea. :)

I really like 'Start Me Up' and I'm surprised it didn't get to #1.

There's a lot of Stones' songs in past Tens I don't even know. All of those Album tracks. I didn't buy Albums, just Singles. Here's why.

We lived on an outback farm and it was very hard to grow crops there. I used to rise when the rooster crowed every day and do my chores: water and feed the animals and the poultry, collect the eggs - if there were any, milk the cows and goats, shear the sheep, tend the crops, plow the fields and then come in for a hearty breakfast of gruel.

Then I'd walk the ten miles to school - barefoot, we couldn't afford shoes - where I was a straight A student, eat some yams or gumleaves I found for lunch, sometimes witchety grubs if they were in season, clean the blackboards after school, escort the School M'aam home - ten miles the other direction - then walk the 20 miles back home (10 + 10, duh).

Then I'd do my chores again. We'd have a surprise for supper. I used to think, "Don't Be Gruel", but Momma usually made rabbit stew, fried goanna, or some other delicacy. Then I'd do my homework, wash up in the horse trough, get ready for bed - which I shared with my nine brothers and sisters - but before I went to sleep I'd listen to one of my Singles on my pedal powered record player.

I just didn't have the energy left to pedal enough to play Albums. That's why.
