Lucky
That was the #1 song in the US the week I was born! My mother had a huge collection of 45's and this was one of her favorite songs. When I think back, Mom had great taste in music. Darryl, next week you can support it, and this one too .... Sukiyaki ... another favorite of mom & I. I had to post it or I'd have forgotten. MuzikTyme
Mr. Ole Double Nickels... (ODN) sounds a bit like what older women go through when they first start growing mustaches Just stopping in to say, "Hi!" I can see all is well and it's even better that I realize it's because of you! Have always the best of everything my wish befalls on you! And, I'm eating CORN flakes. Someone once said you are what you eat. That may be true but I've never turned into a ...a... thing! ~Marcus
OLD 55
I used to kiss a few old Aunts with mustaches. You're a good man Marcus. I appreciate your friendship. Don't you go turning into an ear of corn on us now. ODN
MuzikTyme
I never realized corn could hear! Just do me a favour (ODN) and don't believe what an ear of corn tells you because it would ultimately be corny! What's worse is my terrible pun. Don't you go turning into an ear of corn on us now. Dang! If only you'd have said that a bit sooner. I wouldn't have had all this silk!

cyberjudge
:guitar: Golden Oldies Top 40! :happybanana: Glad you could join us for another edition of Golden Oldies Top 40, where once again we count down the greatest hits from 1950-1963, as selected by your votes on songfacts.com. Let's get started: 3 songs drop out of the 40 this week: I Put a Spell on You by Screamin' Jay Hawkins, The Lion Sleeps Tonight by the Tokens, and after 11 straight weeks on the chart, Jailhouse Rock by Elvis Presley. 3 new songs enter the chart this week, starting with the first entry for Jackie Wilson, at #40, Lonely Teardrops. Breaking in at #28 is He's So Fine, by the Chiffons. And debuting all the way at #19 is Love Potion #9 by the Clovers. This brings us to this week's "GO-40 Extra": It has often been said that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. And this week's chart is no exception. Love Potion #9 is one of several songs in our countdown that would go on to be successfully covered by other artists. In fact 34 of the 40 songs on this week's chart would have at least 1 cover version reach the Billboard pop charts. Several of these covers reached the Top 10: Earth Angel by the Crew Cuts (1955) Don't Be Cruel by Cheap Trick (1988) Rockin' Robin by Michael Jackson (1972) You Send Me by Theresa Brewer (1957) Fever by the McCoys (1965) Love Potion #9 by the Searchers (1965) Shop Around by Captain & Tennille (1976) Please Mr. Postman, a #1 for the Carpenters (1975) Crying by Don McLean (1980) Sea of Love by the Honeydrippers (1985), and Baby It's You by Smith (1969). And that does not include 3 songs that reentered the charts years after their first release: Rock Around the Clock by Bill Haley & his Comets, and Surfin' USA by the Beach Boys, which each reached the Top 40 in 1974, and Stand by Me by Ben E. King, which made it back into the Top 10 in 1986, when it was used as the theme song for Ron Howard's movie, Stand by Me. And a trivia question for you: 3 artists in this week's countdown reached the Billboard pop charts with covers of other songs in this week's countdown: who are they? I'll give everyone 48 hours to come up with the answer, then fill you in when Darryl opens next week's voting. Now back to the countdown: The biggest climber in the chart this week is Rock-in Robin by Bobby Day, which rockets up 10 spots from 36 to 26 in its 2nd week, followed by Palisades Park by Freddy Cannon (38 to 30) and You've Really Got a Hold on Me by the Miracles (26 to 18), each up 8, It's My Party by Lesley Gore, moving up 6 from 17 to 11, and Poison Ivy by the Coasters (32 to 27) and Hit the Road Jack by Ray Charles, each up 5 notches. No new songs in the Top 10 this week, but there is some movement in the Top 3, as last week's #1, Runaway by Del Shannon, falls from 1 to 3. Crazy by Patsy Cline slides up 1 notch to #2; meaning that there is a new #1 again this week! :happybanana: The new #1 song is: Take Me Home Tonight by Eddie Money Be My Baby, by the Ronettes! That wraps up another week of :guitar: Golden Oldies Top 40. :happybanana: On behalf of Darryl and the GO-40 staff, thanks for logging in. Until next week, keep your head in the stars and keep reaching for the ground.

OLD 55
And a trivia question for you: 3 artists in this week's countdown reached the Billboard pop charts with covers of other songs in this week's countdown: who are they? I'll give everyone 48 hours to come up with the answer, then fill you in when Darryl opens next week's voting. So we're looking for 3 Artists in this Top 40, who successfully covered 3 other Songs in this same Top 40. Hmm. I know one of them, I think. The Coasters (Poison Ivy) also did Love Potion #9 (The Clovers).
