OLD 55
Thanks for voting Lars and Laurie. That was a very good Quizpic Laurie. It's probably a song we all know, but wouldn't buy the record (or admit to it) ! I don't think I've ever seen a picture of him before. Let's share the delightful lyrics. OLD 55
In 1957, the Wham-O toy company rolled out its first batch of Frisbees. Originally known as the Pluto Platter, Wham-O decided on the name change, flinging a new word into popular culture that still conjures images of carefree fun in the park and breezy days at the beach. Walter (Fred) Morrison, inventor of the beloved disc, thought the new name would never fly. "I thought Frisbee was a terrible name,'' Morrison, now 88, said. "I thought it was insane.'' However, Frisbee instead became insanely popular, making the name as synonymous with flying discs as Google is with Internet searches and Kleenex is with tissues. By aggressively marketing Frisbee-playing as a new sport, Wham-O sold over 100 million units of its famous toy by 1977. Today, at least 60 manufacturers produce the flying discs--generally made out of plastic and measuring roughly 8-10 inches in diameter with a curved lip. The official Frisbee is now owned by Mattel, who bought the toy from Wham-O in 1994.
