A Letter to the Beatles by The 4 Preps

My girl fell in love with a singing group from Enlgand far away

She lost her mind, she lost her heart, when they began to play

I want to hold your hand.

And so my girl wrote a letter to The Beatles saying you're so fine

You can have my love to keep, take this heart of mine

Beatles I'd give you anything, all of my true love

But they wrote a letter back to her saying that ain't enough.

You gotta send us 25 cents for an autographed picture

One dollar bill for a fan club card

And if you send in right away

You get a lock of hair from our St. Bernard

I want to hold your hand.

So she wrote another letter to The Beatles saying you misunderstood

It's you I love, it's you I want, to have and hold for good

Beatles I'd give you anything, all of my true love

But they wrote a letter back to her saying that ain't enough.

You gotta send us 25 cents for an autographed picture

One dollar bill for a fan club card

And if you send in right away

You get a lock of hair from our St. Bernard

I want to hold your hand.

So she wrote a last letter to The Beatles and now my song can end

Cause they're all around her, making her life another heaven

Yeah my girl and The Beatles got together and now she's my girl no more

Cause she wrote Dear Beatles, I love you very much, and furthermore.

She sent them 25 cents for an autographed picture

One dollar bill for a fan club card

And cause she sent it right away

She got a lock of hair from their St. Bernard.

Bloodhound Gang again

If I were God thou shall not worship false Billy Idols.

And thou shall add the Book Of Flavor Flav to the Bible.

- Hell Yeah

I bet you could almost mention any of their songs either here or in "songs that mention celebrities"

Welcome to the Monkey House - The Dandy Warhols

Wire's coming back again,

Elastica, got sued by them

When Michael Jackson dies,

We're covering Blackbird

But won't it be absurd then

When no one knows what song they just heard

Unless someone on the radio

tells them first

So come on, come on, come on, come

Come on, come on, come on, come on

Come on, come on, come on

You monkeys.

They're working on the Blackbird cover

"1985 - Bowling for Soup" has about twelve 80's bands mentioned in the lyrics

She was gonna be an actress

She was gonna be a star

She was gonna shake her ass(ass)

On the hood of White Snake's car

Her yellow SUV is now the enemy

Looks at her average life

And nothing, has been...

all right since

Bruce Springsteen, Madonna

Way before Nirvana

There was U2 & Blondie

And music still on MTV

Her two kids in high school

They tell her that she's uncool

Cuz she's still preoccupied

With 19, 19, 1985

She’s seen all the classics

She knows every line

"Breakfast Club", "Pretty In Pink"

Even "St. Elmo's Fire"

She rocked out to Wham!

Not a big Limp Bizkit fan

Thought she'd get a hand

On a member of Duran Duran

Where's the mini-skirt made of snakeskin?

And who's the other guy that's singing in Van Halen?

When did reality become T.V.?

What ever happened to sitcoms, game shows,

(on the radio)

She hates time, make it stop

When did Motley Crue become classic rock?

And when did Ozzy become an actor?

Please make this stop, stop, STOP(tick tick tick) and bring back

Oh yes they will:

"Since the tragic news of Mr. Jackson’s passing yesterday, we here at The Odditorium have been besieged with requests of the status of The Dandys’ cover of The Beatles’ “Blackbirdâ€, as foretold, and some would say, fore-promised (that’s probably not a word), in the title track of our 2003 album Welcome To The Monkey House. Please note that this was not an anticipated event and we had no cover of “Blackbird†all rearin’ to go. I mean, how could we? With both Courtney and Fathead currently out of town we cannot say when we will be able to get to this cover of “Blackbirdâ€, but we will, as soon as we are all together and able, since we have come to find that it means so much to a lot of you."

"Daft Punk Is Playing At My House" - LCD Soundsystem (this song always makes me smile)

"Losing My Edge" - LCD Soundsystem, blatantly namechecks a bunch of artists that music experts namecheck as cool or original:

Yeah, I'm losing my edge.

I'm losing my edge.

The kids are coming up from behind.

I'm losing my edge.

I'm losing my edge to the kids from France and from London.

But I was there.

I was there in 1968.

I was there at the first Can show in Cologne.

I'm losing my edge.

I'm losing my edge to the kids whose footsteps I hear when they get on the decks.

I'm losing my edge to the Internet seekers

who can tell me every member of every good group from 1962 to 1978.

I'm losing my edge.

To all the kids in Tokyo and Berlin.

I'm losing my edge to the art-school Brooklynites in little jackets

and borrowed nostalgia for the unremembered eighties.

But I'm losing my edge.

I'm losing my edge, but I was there.

I was there.

But I was there.

I'm losing my edge.

I'm losing my edge.

I can hear the footsteps every night on the decks.

But I was there.

I was there in 1974 at the first Suicide practices in a loft in New York City.

I was working on the organ sounds with much patience.

I was there when Captain Beefheart started up his first band.

I told him, "Don't do it that way. You'll never make a dime."

I was there.

I was the first guy playing Daft Punk to the rock kids.

I played it at CBGB's.

Everybody thought I was crazy.

We all know.

I was there.

I was there.

I've never been wrong.

I used to work in the record store.

I had everything before anyone.

I was there in the Paradise Garage DJ booth with Larry Levan.

I was there in Jamaica during the great sound clashes.

I woke up naked on the beach in Ibiza in 1988.

But I'm losing my edge to better-looking people with better ideas and more talent.

And they're actually really, really nice.

I'm losing my edge.

I heard you have a compilation of every good song ever done by anybody.

Every great song by the Beach Boys.

All the underground hits. All the Modern Lovers tracks.

I heard you have a vinyl of every Niagra record on German import.

I heard that you have a white label of every seminal Detroit techno hit - 1985, '86, '87.

I heard that you have a CD compilation of every good '60s cut and another box set from the '70s.

I hear you're buying a synthesizer and an arpeggiator

and are throwing your computer out the window because you want to make something real.

You want to make a Yaz record.

I hear that you and your band have sold your guitars and bought turntables.

I hear that you and your band have sold your turntables and bought guitars.

I hear everybody that you know is more relevant than everybody that I know.

But have you seen my records?

This Heat, Pere Ubu, Outsiders, Nation of Ulysses, Mars, The Trojans, The Black Dice, Todd Terry,

the Germs, Section 25, Althea and Donna, Sexual Harrassment, a-ha, Pere Ubu, Dorothy Ashby,

PIL, the Fania All-Stars, the Bar-Kays, the Human League,

the Normal, Lou Reed, Scott Walker, Monks, Niagra,

Joy Division, Lower 48, the Association, Sun Ra,

Scientists, Royal Trux, 10cc,

Eric B. and Rakim, Index, Basic Channel, Soulsonic Force ("just hit me"!), Juan Atkins,

David Axelrod, Electric Prunes, Gil! Scott! Heron!, the Slits,

Faust, Mantronix, Pharaoh Sanders and the Fire Engines, the Swans,

the Soft Cell, the Sonics, the Sonics, the Sonics, the Sonics. You don't know what you really want. (x15)

Taxi Driver by Gym Class Heroes

I took cutie for a ride in my deathcab

She tipped me with a kiss I dropped her off at the meth lab

Before she left she made a dashboard confessional

And spilled her guts in cursive but whats worse is

I could still see her bright eyes like sunny day real estate

Oh my and in a funny way the ceiling tastes

So high but no chance

My little chemical romance left a bad taste in my mouth

But I approached her like hey mercedes why the long face

Why you cryin? theres no need

Just put on this coheed and fallout

Boy meets girl jimmy eat world

But Schlep eats pills till hes all out

Not once not twice she was thrice times a lady

Mackin on brand new, but I had to

Bounce over to the postal service to

Pick up these pills that take care of my nervousness

And all the way I saw planes and mistook 'em for stars

She played games but she took em too far

At the drive in

Watching soft porn and you can tell

By the trail of the dead, that there was somethin in the popcorn

I hop in my cab destination midtown

Just to get up with some kids that like to get down

I'd made my rounds and that was that

In between the frowns and scraps and heart attacks

And I remember I seen her ass in early november

On a Thursday taking back Sunday for a refund

She shot a wink like no hard feelings

Then she jetted to brazil man them pills had me spun

This is the story of the year right here

This is hot water music

Put ya ramen into it

Say, that's a lot of references to other artists. But you could also have highlighted...

I could still see her bright eyes like sunny day real estate...

But Schlep eats pills till hes all out

Not once not twice she was thrice times a lady...

She played games but she took em too far

At the drive in...

Watching soft porn and you can tell

By the trail of the dead, that there was somethin in the popcorn...

At The Drive-In and Trail Of Dead were the best two bands mentioned in that song and you missed'em both. Come on; it aint exactly "Where's Wally". ;)

I'm not sure if this counts or not, but in the song Hotel California, when Don sings the line "they stab it with their steely knives", they were making reference to Steely Dan. As the legend goes, in one of Steely Dan's songs, they mention turning up the Eagles during a domestic dispute so the neighbors can't hear - so the Eagles returned the favor.
