edna Posted September 15, 2009 Report Posted September 15, 2009 Well, it's Vivian Stanshall , of course. [smaller]I'll bet that was on the tip of everbody's tongue [/smaller] Not on mine... but now I see it was obvious...
MindCrime Posted September 15, 2009 Report Posted September 15, 2009 He was a freak and a weirdo, no less.
bazooka Posted September 18, 2009 Report Posted September 18, 2009 . . . . . [smaller]hint:[/smaller] With his band, he is basically a two-hit wonder ([smaller]not to say that isn't a significant accomplishment -- think of all the no-hit non-wonders there are out there[/smaller]). Many of his album titles are puns playing on his uncommon last name.
bazooka Posted September 20, 2009 Report Posted September 20, 2009 [smaller]Ein kleiner Hinweis :[/smaller] The bigger of his early 80s hits reached #2 on the Billboard Hot 100, and became fodder for a Weird Al parody.
edna Posted September 20, 2009 Report Posted September 20, 2009 It's not Falco, it's not the guy from The Knack... Weird Al makes parodies of everything... I was trying to find out about the guitar...
bazooka Posted September 20, 2009 Report Posted September 20, 2009 OK, OK. Here's a picture from his (& our) younger days.
bazooka Posted September 22, 2009 Report Posted September 22, 2009 Bravo, c_s_1987 ! It is Greg Kihn. Check out his album titles Rockihnroll Kihntinued Kihnspiracy Citizen Kihn Interestingly, edna, it looks to me like that same guitar in this old video. Breakup Song peaked at #15. Jeopardy was a #2 single, and was the one Weird Al parodied.
c_s_1987 Posted September 26, 2009 Report Posted September 26, 2009 Hint 1: This photo was taken at a tribute concert for a famous musician who died this decade.
_Laurie_ Posted September 26, 2009 Report Posted September 26, 2009 Looks like my art teacher from high school...
c_s_1987 Posted September 29, 2009 Report Posted September 29, 2009 No. Hint 2 - A photo from many years earlier.
c_s_1987 Posted October 3, 2009 Report Posted October 3, 2009 Not them either. I'm surprised no one has got this yet. Hint 3 - The guy in the first picture is the lead singer and pianist of the band in the second picture. They are best known for their 1967 debut single. They have released more than ten studio albums, the most recent of which was in 2003. I'm also sure that Dappled hasn't seen the second picture, because he should recognise them straight away.
edna Posted October 3, 2009 Report Posted October 3, 2009 That's Procol Harum. I was looking for pictures of bands of the sixties in my Rolling Stone Encyclopaedia and I saw them. So it's Gary Brooker. I didn't remember Dappled was a PH fan... I would have said Seeker...
edna Posted October 7, 2009 Report Posted October 7, 2009 One of them looks a lot like he looked 40 years ago.
