OLD 55
CHART COMMENTS, GOLDEN OLDIES TOP 40 #3. Well, we have another NEW #1. Del Shannon's Runaway just managed to tip out (We're Gonna) Rock Around The Clock, which had a lot of carry over points from last week. In fact it was a race in two between these ahead of Don't Be Cruel, which has been Top 3 since our Charts started. Runaway debuted last week at #17 and continued on right to the Top. Other major movers upward were - Stand By Me - Ben E.King #25 to #13 Since I Don't Have You - Skyliners #32 to 18 Crazy - Patsy Cline #27 to #21 Sleep Walk - Santo And Johnny #36 to #22 La Bamba - Ritchie Valens #37 to #23 Can't Help Falling In Love - Elvis Presley #40 to #25 There were eight New Entries - Crying - Roy Orbison Up On The Roof - Drifters Quarter To Three - Gary (U.S.) Bonds Surfin' U.S.A. - Beach Boys Travelin' Man - Ricky Nelson Cathy's Clown - Everly Brothers (giving them two in the Chart) I'm Sorry - Brenda Lee Rumble - Link Wray & His Ray Men The points "bench mark" needed for new entries this week proved to be 8. And these dropped out - Cherry Pink And Apple Blossom White - Perez Prado Memories Are Made Of This - Dean Martin Love Me Tender - Elvis Presley Rock And Roll Waltz - Kay Starr The Yellow Rose Of Texas - Mitch Miller The Ballad Of Davy Crockett - Bill Hayes The Poor People Of Paris - Les Baxter It's Now Or Never - Elvis Presley Franki Valli & The Four Seasons' Big Girls Don't Cry refused to be budged, with five people voting for it and two against it. Will it still be there next week ? Your feedback/comments before we open our next Top 40 are welcomed.

OLD 55
Yes ! I'm going to help try and keep Runaway there for another week. We seem to shoot a song up the Chart and then forget about it. It would be nice to see one at #1 for more than just one week. My 5 points for Runaway. OLD 55
Thanks Elena, Ken and Jeff. I see you changed Runaway to a +5 Elena. I know we both like that song. We voted for it in the very first Top Ten. I wasn't just trying to get points for it - I'd like to see any song at #1 for more than just one week. We seem to send 'em up and then forget 'em. OLD 55
Thanks Phil. I'll go along with Lonesome Town next week if it doesn't make this Top 40, and you decide to nominate it again. I like all the Ricky Nelson oldies. We hope more will join us this week, especially those who've expressed interest in doing so. And those who didn't get round to voting last week. The more the merrier. And if anyone wants to post some memorabilia or info from the era, please feel free to do so ! Like that great YouTube Oldies Songs link that Laurie psted.
