Sufjan Stevens Drive-By Truckers Animal Collective (and off-shoots) Shins ... and let me be very mainstream: Green Day (the funnest guitar band around, even if they want to be something more) LBB Edited February 13, 2009 by Guest
MuzikTyme
There's quite a few that I admire but for whatever reason these guys always stick out in my mind . . . For You ~ Staind Post Script While I'm thinking about it, these guys also impress me for the contributions they've laid forth in this decade . . . Fine Again ~ Seether Not to mention these very, IMHO, talented fellows . . . Poem ~ Taproot

blind-fitter
Relatively new (began releasing albums in the 21st Century) Dresden Dolls / Amanda Palmer Yeah Yeah Yeahs The Kills The Arctic Monkeys The Broken Family Band The Von Bondies Clinic However: even though these have all been around for three decades now, I reckon that Nick Cave, Morrissey and The Fall/Mark E. Smith have all released great stuff in the noughties. Other durable artists who have continued to release albums of sheer excellence: Eels, Low, Guided By Voices, Lucinda Williams. greendaddy43
This is my first post so I don't want to overstep my boundries, but when I think of "best overall" artist I think of someone who has made a huge impact with their music. That being the case I'd have to say John Frusciante. In the past decade he has had group releases (from the Chili Peppers) like Californication (I know it was 1999 but that's close enough), By The Way, and Stadium Arcadium and solo releases like To Record Only Water for Ten Days, Shadows Collide with People, and his newest The Empyrean. These don't even include his collaborations with The Mars Volta.
