Harrison Ford is to be honored for his work as a pilot, he has landed one of the aviation industry's top awards.

The actor has been a longtime flight enthusiast, winning his first pilot's licence in the 1990s and going on to amass a private collection of his own aircraft.

In March 2004, Ford became chairman of the Young Eagles program of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), teaching youngsters and flying nearly 300 children in his own De Havilland Beaver plane.

And now Ford is to be honored for his work with the program at the 6th Annual Living Legends of Aviation Awards, which will take place on January 22 in Los Angeles.
