cyberjudge
Seeing that TT50 list inspired me to nominate another song that had also been nominated that week: A Change is Gonna Come-Sam Cooke (1964) It seems all the you tubes I can find of Sam Cooke's original have been deleted due to copyright restrictions, however I am posting a video from Barack Obama's inauguration concert performed by Bettye LaVette & Jon Bon Jovi. And the only song that can go with it is the song that inspired "A Change", and a riveting performance by a legendary singer prominent in Obama's campaign: Blowin in the Wind-Stevie Wonder (1966)
LeeBB
A Change is Gonna Come-Sam Cooke (1964) Now there's a song crying out for the Cat Stevens treatment! Actually, do not accept any imitations for this recording (especially for this recording)... it's here in this playlist, along with 40 other nominations: Songfactors Choice TT 150 nominations L, L. James Dean - Eagles (The man IS a cultural icon....a gay one that couldn't drive very well, but a cultural icon nonetheless.) 3. Chicago (We Can Change The World) - Graham Nash (Classic, plain and simple.) 4. She Sells Sanctuary - The Cult (I would have loved to hear this one with Jim Morrison on lead vocals.) 5. My Life - Billy Joel (Oh, that Peter Scolari...what a talent!) 6. Eve - The Heavy Sandwich (Can someone tell me where might I purchase this sure-to-be-classic tune?) 7. Blueberry Hill - Fats Domino (Yeah, Ol' Fats found his thrill - and apparently his appetite - up there.) 8. Far Far Away - Slade (I think Slade should get their kids to form a band.....SONS OF SLADE!! ) 9. Waterfall - The Stone Roses (MANCHESTER RULES!!) 10. Minnie the Moocher - Cab Calloway (I loved Cab's remake of his own tune in "The Blues Brothers". Who does he think he is....Ozzy Osbourne?!) bazooka
8. Strawberry Letter 23 - Brothers Johnson (I never heard of this one until this week, funky track - I dig it) Hmmm. Yours truly nominated it in Top Ten #46 and again in #67 and included it my Personal Top Ten list. The song written and recorded by Shuggie Otis, but the Bros. Johnson version is a definite case of "cover even better than the original".
