Like many people, my favourites by some popular bands are often unlikely ones.

The Rain Song - Led Zeppelin

Innuendo - Queen

Minstrel In The Gallery - Jethro Tull

High Hopes - Pink Floyd

Getting In Tune - The Who

She's A Rainbow - The Rolling Stones

Tomorrow Never Knows - The Beatles

Night Bird Flying - Jimi Hendrix

The Masterplan - Oasis

Who You Are - Pearl Jam

And, for my fellow Australians:

Up And Down And Back Again - Powderfinger

Best Kept Lies - Cold Chisel

Lazy Gun - Jet

Midnight Oil before they discovered acoustic guitars and drum machines, four-on-the-floor drums and straight eights bass lines, eg Back On The Borderline and the rest of the Head Injuries album.

Would you really say that Tomorrow Never Knows was underrated? Isn't it usually considered to be one of John's greatest masterpieces?

I felt I had to mention it simply because it did not appear on the 1962-1966 compilation, even though IMO it is better than every song on that compilation.

Strangers

~ The Kinks

The Kinks may be the most underrated band in history... what do you think? Pretty much everything from VGPS onwards (apart from a fluke hit with Lola) was completely ignored. Some of the greatest music to ever come out of England.

Graham Parker was a big hit in Australia way back when:

Hey Lord, Don't Ask Me Questions

Protection

New York Shuffle

Like a cross between Elvis Costello and Van Morrison. Also strangely reminiscent of the Australian mid-70s act Jo Jo Zep and The Falcons.

Good stuff!!
