"Motorcycle Emptiness" - The Manic Street Preachers

"She Is Beyond Good And Evil" - The Pop Group While browsing youtube for what I really wanted to nominate (Mark Stewart & THe Maffia's "Jerusalem"), I happened upon this: the same dancing fellow as features in the vid for "Bored Teenagers" in my PTT. Now what are the chances of that happening?

Interesting. How do videos become "related"? If I watched a load of those videos a couple of times through, in sequential order even, whilst preparing my nominations, would that automatically mean that they would become "related videos" when someone else such as yourself chances to listen to one of them. I wrote down my PT nomination ideas on paper, before I looked them up on youtube. I didn't create my list by just picking a video, then choose my next nomination on the basis of what was in the "related" column, and so on.

This thing this evening: I've categorically never looked up Mark Stewart (formerly vocalist of The Pop Group) on youtube before. Tonight I did, in search of "Jerusalem". I didn't find that, but I did spot "She Is Beyond Good And Evil", so I thought I'd give that a go (to check the quality of the clip before settling the deal) and who should I see, but the same uncool dancing guy as I chuckled at last week, when I saw the "Bored Teenagers" vid for the first time. ("Bored Teenagers having been a last-minute addition to my nominations: there hadn't been any youtubage of it back when I first drew up my list, much to my disappointment at the time.) I think that's a bit weird. It's not as if the two songs are remotely similar in style even.

Apparently related videos are determined by title and tags (according to wikipedia). I think the uploader has something to do with that too though - meaning if you watch a video by 123uploader, it's likely that some of his other videos will show up in the related videos column as well, even though there's a separate 'more from this user' column.

That would hardly explain why other tracks from my nominations featured in the "related" column, apart from the ones (just a couple) that "a friend" uploaded specifically for the purpose thereof, and two ("No Doves Fly Here" and "Teenage Time Killer") which may have both been the work of AnarchoAlan, whom I don't know from Adam. Or from AnarchoAdam, for that matter. :D

I think the related videos are chosen more based on what the viewers who chance upon the video have watched. That's how it seems with my videos where initially the related videos are all the ones I saw prior to uploading (or that I have watched fairly often). Then as more and more people drop by, the related videos get more... related.

This was quite difficult.

1-Forever Young - Bob Dylan (1974) This song has grown on me over the years. Wonder why?

2-Willin' - Little Feat (1972) Great song by the late Lowell George. I like Linda Ronstadt's version just as much.

3-Ooh La La - The Faces (1973) Yeah, if only. I prefer Rod Stewart's solo version now.

4-I Only Have Eyes For You - Flamingos (1959) Fantastic group harmony. Lovers Never Say Goodbye next?

5-Stranded In The Jungle - The Cadets (1956) They wuz a cookin' me. LOL

6-No Particular Place To Go - Chuck Berry (1964)So we parked way out on the Kokomo. I still don't get that one. I should look it up on Songfacts.

7-Part-Time Party Time Man - The Part-Time Party Band (post 1980) Joe, circa 1982-1988.

8-Zoom - Fat Larry's Band (1982)

9-More Than This - Roxy Music (1982)

10-I Don't Know How To Love Him - Yvonne Elliman (1971)

I wish I could squeeze in Sentimental Lady, Da Doo Ron Ron, Little Lies, Rosalinda's Eyes, Day By Day and Goldfingah to name a few. Oh right, I just did. :D

This may be what Mr. Berry was referring to.

From Wikipedia:

Kokomo is an unincorporated community in Marion County, Mississippi, United States. It was organized by the Phillip Enoch family of Fernwood, Mississippi around 1912. They planned to purchase timber to finance the existing Fernwood railroad the family was purchasing. After they had secured a right-of-way, the Enochs began to construct and lay the track east of Tylertown, MS. The first tracks were not metal but were made of wood, but they were replaced with metal later. When the tracks crossed a public road, they would give the crossing a name. The names came in the following order: Davo, Barto, Carto, Knoxo, and Kokomo. Kokomo was approximately ten miles to the east of Tylertown.
