Carl
Just came across this doozy from New Order on Top Of The Pops. Through the magic of YouTube, was can see most of the great live TV music performance disasters of all time. Through some combination of alcohol, indifference, incopentence and technical problems, what are the best of the worst? Tenacious_Peaches
Guns n Roses at the 2002 VMAs Ugh. I get indigestion every time I think of this debacle.
Levis
Is the New Order performance not good? Or am I missing something? My favourite is the Stone Roses' first TV appearance Amateurs! Amateurs!
Ombre Vivante
NewOrder is well-known for being bad live - no movement, they show no brotherhood with the audience. The music is good, but they just stand still the whole time.

c_s_1987
Silverchair performed Straight Lines of The Tonight Show when Daniel Johns had a throat infection. Oddly enough, that video isn't on YouTube. However, there is a performance that I think was recorded a day later, with vocals not quite so bad but still pretty crap. Straight Lines - Silverchair (The Late Late Show)

daslied
It's not televised, but it was in a documentary. The Brian Jonestown Massacre performing at a RECORD SHOWCASE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9admQrK9Bzs
Udo
Guns n Roses at the 2002 VMAs Straight Lines - Silverchair (The Late Late Show) These two are fairly bad, but the others are so much worse! LOL "We're gonna get the biggest record deal in the industry... because we're smart."
MindCrime
I can't find the video anywhere, but one of the worst was when Prince appeared on the Letterman Show and passed out in the middle of his set and had to be carried off stage by Letterman's security. Then Dave and Paul made jokes about him afterwards.
Shawna
would lip-synched performances where the artist forgot some words qualify? I can think of two off the top of my head...
Batman
I love MGMT's song "Time to Pretend," so I was really excited when I saw that they were going to perform it on David Letterman. Their performace was really lackluster though. The studio version is way better.
skybluesky
It's not televised, but it was in a documentary. The Brian Jonestown Massacre performing at a RECORD SHOWCASE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9admQrK9Bzs Amy Sherman Palladino recreated that fiasco for the Gilmore girls episode "He's Slippin’ ‘Em Bread... Dig?" and Joel Gion from BJM plays Joel the tambourine player in the episode.
