When Garth Brooks belted out "More Than A Memory," songwriter Billy Montana's hair was blown back by the sound. Literally. As one of the writers of the hit song, he had been invited to the pre-recording session.

Billy also penned the hit single "Bring On The Rain," the duet sung by Jo Dee Messina and Tim McGraw, which a more timely release of an empowering song there never was. Released as a single on September 10, 2001, Billy says he had a meltdown in his driveway when he heard it on the radio with an overdub of the events of September 11.

He's a wonderful character, and had he pursued his first career choice, Nashville would have been short a very real talent. But mapmaking companies across the globe would have rejoiced.
