Mike
Regrettably, Spencer Tracy's last scene ever, he was very ill, he died 17 days later. This was the last scene shot for the film, the very last time Spencer Tracy appeared in front of a camera.
scott
I dunno, If I had to choose the 'greatest' film speech, I'd have to pick any one of Peter Finch's from Network. He remains the only actor to grab a best actor trophy posthumously here's one of my favorites.
Lucky
What makes that speech so great is the offscreen relationship between Tracy & Hepburn. If you know about that, and keep it in mind, and then listen to the speech again, you'll see he is speaking directly to her. Ackowledging something he'd never formally ackknowledged before. You can see the love shining in her eyes. She knew he was sick, and that it was his last performance. Oh my god, the love story there!

If there was a greater, classier Hollywood love story, I don’t know what it could be. Kate never watched this film (Guess who’s coming to dinner) she said that that would be too painful of an experience. She never attended Tracy’s funeral, she said she did this out of respect for his family, I think she did it because it would be far too painful for her. She had an old hat Spencer used to wear, she presented it to Henry Fonda before the filming of “On golden pond’, asked if he would wear it. He accepted. TheLizard
Kind of ironic that Charlie Chaplin would give one of the greatest speeches in film history.
Steel2Velvet
That certainly is one of the nobler film moments of all time, Tim. Good call! The thing that really stands out is that every other film clip mentioned in this thread contains a monologue that was written for the actor to deliver. Charlie Chaplin wrote his own screenplay for The Great Dictator.

Tenacious_Peaches
My favorite romantic speech in a movie. From Chasing Amy, starring Ben Affleck and Joey Lauren Adams. She's a lesbian in the movie, btw. WARNING! Some adult language.
