Classic Old Music

This is to correct my earlier mis-post, apologies to all for putting the following in the "Fogies" thread. This stuff is timeless....

The Mills Brothers - "Cab Driver"

My favorite piece of music ever, Santo and Johnny, "Sleepwalk"

Acker Bilk - "Stranger On The Shore"

This melody is just simply gorgeous...

Percy Faith - "Theme From A Summer Place"

I called a local oldies station and whistled this one to the DJ, and he cheerfully gave me the title that had been eluding me for years,

Bent Fabric, "Alley Cat"

This was Gramma's favorite, and she always wanted me to dance with her at weddings to it. I miss her, a lot..Hit it Al,

Al Martino - "Spanish Eyes"

This guy's voice makes me think of my Mom and Dad's console stereo, real oak, red cloth speaker grills, big as a chest freezer..

Jerry Wallace - "Primrose Lane"

The prettiest father/daughter duo, Frank and Nancy Sinatra, "Something Stupid"

I'm not a huge Sinatra fan, but I do love this song. Frank Sinatra, "Summer Wind"

God I love this version. Ray Charles, "I Can't Stop Loving You"

Wow, does these bring back memories. I cried buckets of tears while Stranger on the Shore played and I still have the album of Al Martino with Spanish Eyes on it. It cost me $90 as I recall. My then boyfrend(later husband) was in Seattle and I was in Calif. I called him to play that album for him and we listened to that song over and over. $90 worth :D:D

I'm fascinated by the tune Harlem Nocturne_ composed by Earle Hagen in 1939.

Over the years, it's been interpreted in different styles by dozens of artists.

Here's a few notable versions from among the many you'll find on YouTube:

I grew up listening to 2 versions mostly. The Viscounts and this Johnny Otis 1945 version.

1930s Merrie Melodies cartoons played repeatedly on the TV kiddie shows in my 1950s childhood and for decades afterward.

The plots were often built around popular songs.

Here's one of the most memorable.

I Love To Singa

Ha-ha, I love this one, my son and I were just watching this a couple weeks ago. Fantastic tune and toon!
