The Seeker
[big]Pink Floyd founder Richard Wright dies of cancer[/big] Monday, 15 Sep 2008 16:47 Richard Wright, a founding member of rock legends Pink Floyd, has died of cancer aged 65. Wright met fellow band members Roger Waters and Nick Mason at the Regent Street Polytechnic College of Architecture and was part of the Pink Floyd Sound - as they were originally called - as well as the band's previous incarnations Sigma 6 and the Screaming Abdabs. His spokesman said on Monday: "The family of Richard Wright, founder member of Pink Floyd, announce with great sadness, that Richard died today after a short struggle with cancer. "The family have asked that their privacy is respected at this difficult time." Wright was forced to resign from the band during the recording sessions for their seminal album The Wall, as his personal relationship with Waters grew untenable, though he appeared as a salaried session musician during the subsequent tour in 1981 and 1982. Like Nick Mason, he appeared on every Pink Floyd tour and is only absent from one album, 1983's The Final Cut. Wright is survived by his third wife Millie, to whom he was married since 1996, and their son Ben. Pink Floyd last performed at the Live 8 charity concert in 2005, raising hopes of a full reunion, with Waters and Dave Gilmour appearing on stage for the first time in almost a quarter of a century. However, Gilmour has recently ruled out a reunion, saying he has 'moved on'. Source ------------------------------------------------- Such sad news. He was my favourite member of the band Edited September 15, 2008 by Guest

Lea
Such sad news. He was my favourite member of the band Mine to. He was one of the few celebrities I would have liked to sit down with and have a conversation with. I think he would have been very cool to hang out with. This is so sad

Foolonthehill
A real loss. He was certainly a creative force in Pink Floyd, particularly in their earlier recordings, giving them their characteristic space rock sound. My favourite contributions of his would probably be on "On The Run", "Great Gig In The Sky" and "Careful With That Axe Eugene". I'll make sure to listen to my Pink Floyd albums tonight. Tony Baloni
Devastating. He was my favorite Floyd. RIP, buddy. Me too. I was in sociology class today when my friend texted me the news. I just have been completely sad ever since. If I could've met anyone from Pink Floyd (besides syd) it would've been him. RandomPrecision
Very sad to hear this news. He was 'in there' with his unique sound right from the start and it progressed into some of the most beautiful, most haunting music which made Pink Floyd the iconic band that they are. Peace Rick. Foolonthehill
My favourite contributions of his would probably be on "On The Run", "Great Gig In The Sky" and "Careful With That Axe Eugene". And how could I forget "Summer '68", probably the best thing he wrote.

edna
Wow, I´m just learning this now... That´s a part of my youth going away with him... Yes, he was our fave Floyd... and I agree with Foolonthehill, his music brings such memories... This is very sad. He was one of the greatest musicians of the last century, no doubt. He was a founder of Pink Floyd. A real revolution in modern sound. And he could have still toured and written and recorded... A great loss. I´m still shocked... c_s_1987
I can't think of any musician's death in my lifetime that has affected me more than this one. I was listening to Pink Floyd this morning and I'm sure I will be for the rest of the week.
Tony Baloni
Me too man. When I heard what happened, my heart sank. I feel like a close friend or family member died. It always seemed to me like Rick was the only geniunely nice guy in Pink Floyd (after Syd left). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nnanU1TqPgI Edited September 16, 2008 by Guest
Viaene
aw, man this saddens me a great lot, a dark day in music history. Rest in peace, dear mister Wright, thanks for everything!
Floydaholic
I found this out on the day that it happened from one of my friends in college, I was really shocked, and sad, I didn't even know that he had cancer. I thought that he'd have good more 20 years left in him, it's just so sad. It won't be the same about him, David Gilmour's next album won't be the same without Wright.
