edna
The Rolling Stnes are performing tomorrow at less than a mile from my place. I might hear them from my balcony. John Fogerty will be playing next week. I don't think I'll go.
andy7
Garth Brooks was supposed to have 5 concerts in Dublin, Ireland soon but the whole thing has caused a massive kerfuffle. If you are interested in the story, you can find loads of articles about it online. Maybe some of you have heard about it already? Basically, 3 concerts were granted, then an extra 2 were granted, but the local residents weren't happy about that. And then add in some licensing issues and miscommunication between concert promotors and the local council and you've got a giant mess. I feel like it's an embarrassment to Ireland on an international scale, and has ramifications for the future. Croke Park holds 80,000 people, 400,000 tickets were sold. To put it into perspective, that's about 1/10th of the Irish population. An estimated 70,000 of those tickets were from non-Irish residents. An estimated (another estimate?!) €50 million or so would have been brought into the Irish economy. Hotels, restaurants, tourists and more will suffer. Worldwide famous acts might start to give Ireland a wide berth now, which wold be a shame.

And here I thought they only listened to The Chieftans, The Irish Rovers and Sinead O'Connor.

Ken
Jimmy Buffett last Saturday night at Detroit's DTE Music Theatre. It's officially summer. A sea of Hawaiian shirts, cheeseburgers, shark fins, salt shakers, pirates, margarita glass sunglasses, 80-year old women in thong bikinis, fruitcakes, etc. What a complete, total blast. Fins UP!
