Farin
If you are Asian, African American, Hispanic, basically any ethnic group other than caucasian, your ethnic group quite possibly is stereotyped in the media. that reminds me of a card I saw on post secret today... skybluesky
Some caucasian people are stereotyped quite a bit too... I know. Not every Irish person wears those ridiculous sunglasses that make you look like a bug, as Bono sometimes sports
The Seeker
Now that's a unique stereotype if I've ever seen one (though that's probably a contradiction in terms)
Lucky
Some caucasian people are stereotyped quite a bit too... My country/southern background is steroetyped quite a bit. It's generally Hee Haw or The Waltons. Stupid or quaint. Edit: I just realized I posted that just before walking into the kitchen to start dinner. Fried chicken with mashed potatos & gravy. Talk about stereotypical! Edited August 3, 2008 by Guest

The Seeker
I could probably think of stereotypes for nearly all the European countries, but I guess some are more popular in the media than others...
Shawna
*I would assume swimming lessons, piano lessons, karate lessons etc. aw crap, I have to take "lessons" off mine, then... I never had anything except regular school "lessons," and for some reason that's what I thought it meant. It's interesting to see the disparity in our privileges during upbringing. It appears that us older folks didn't have the "privileges" that a lot of the young'uns have... some of the stuff has become more a necessity than a privilege, I suppose. And Lea, yes, if I answered for my son, it would be much different, as well. My son isn't spoiled by any stretch, but he's enjoyed things that I never knew existed back when I was little. Lea
Well my kid was a bit spoiled I'm afraid. She not only had a TV in her room but also a VCR, Stereo system and her own phone on her own line. When she turned 16 we gave her my 1976 rebuilt Camaro. We won't even talk about lessons. She did everything from Ballet to Karate and then some. And the clothes Good Golly Molly Sometimes I think we did her a disservice by giving her so much unnecessary stuff. But she will be the first to say she has great parents and she was lucky.

edna
The people in the media who dress and talk like me are portrayed positively Oh, I thought just like Farin it was the way you dress and talk now... I dress like a young person and talk like a normal one... so I don´t know if it´s a "yes" or a "no" for me... I mean, I look just like any caucasian living in a big city in Europe. The Seeker
I seem to have been the only one with a credit card... we are all talking about the same thing, right, not like with the savings/investment accounts? Farin
no, I would call that bank card, and of course I have that too... for me a credit card is something like Visa, Mastercard etc... and I don't know too many people who have one here... edna
I had my first credit card six months ago... I never wanted those cards. My exs and friends and family had them but I always payed and was payed in cash. Actually, I didn´t want to have a bank account, I hate banks and all they represent. They become obscenely (?) rich with my money and they still make me pay more for dealing with MY money... But I had to have an account anyways, otherwise I couldn´t even have a phone line... Now that I think of it, I don´t know if my dad finished the University... I know he started two careers and studied for many years, but he had politic problems and I believe they didn´t let him have the degree...
