Jugband_Blues
I wanted to start a thread listing songs that are not neccessarily "break-up" songs, but more songs about people breaking up. I find these can sometimes be touching, but more often find greatness in their irony or humor. For example, "I Don't Wanna Walk Around With You" by the Ramones, which, simply enough, goes: "I don't wanna walk around with you I don't wanna walk around with you I don't wanna walk around with you So why you wanna walk around with me? I don't wanna walk around with you I don't wanna walk around with you" Other exapmles includue "Yeah! Oh, Yeah!" by the Magnetic Fields, and the rock standard "Hey Joe." Tenacious_Peaches
You Oughta Know Alanis Morissette I want you to know, that I'm happy for you I wish nothing but the best for you both An older version of me Is she perverted like me Would she go down on you in a theatre Does she speak eloquently And would she have your baby I'm sure she'd make a really excellent mother Cause the love that you gave that we made wasn't able To make it enough for you to be open wide, no And every time you speak her name Does she know how you told me you'd hold me Until you died, till you died But you're still alive And I'm here to remind you Of the mess you left when you went away It's not fair to deny me Of the cross I bear that you gave to me I'm here to remind you of the mess you left when you went away it's not fair to deny me of the cross i bear that you gave to me you, you, you ought to know You, you, you oughta know You seem very well, things look peaceful I'm not quite as well, I thought you should know Did you forget about me Mr. Duplicity I hate to bug you in the middle of dinner It was a slap in the face how quickly I was replaced Are you thinking of me when you f*** her Cause the love that you gave that we made wasn't able To make it enough for you to be open wide, no And every time you speak her name Does she know how you told me you'd hold me Until you died, til you died But you're still alive And I'm here to remind you Of the mess you left when you went away It's not fair to deny me Of the cross I bear that you gave to me You, you, you oughta know Cause the joke that you laid on the bed that was me And I'm not gonna fade As soon as you close your eyes and you know it And every time I scratch my nails down someone else's back I hope you feel it... Well can you feel it And I'm here to remind you Of the mess you left when you went away It's not fair to deny me Of the cross I bear that you gave to me You, you, you oughta know

bazooka
To articulate the obvious: The Break Up Song -- Greg Kihn Band We had broken up for good Just an hour before [smaller]Ah-ah-ah, ah-ah-ah-ah, aaah[/smaller] And now I'm staring at the bodies As they're dancing 'cross the floor [smaller]Ah-ah-ah, ah-ah-ah-ah, aaah[/smaller] And then the band slowed the tempo And the music gets you down [smaller]Ah-ah-ah, ah-ah-ah-ah, aaah[/smaller] It was the same old song With a melancholy sound [smaller]Ah-ah-ah, ah-ah-ah-ah, aaah[/smaller] They don't write 'em like that anymore They just don't write 'em like that anymore We'd been living together for a million years [smaller]Ah-ah-ah, ah-ah-ah-ah, aaah[/smaller] But now it feels so strange out of the atmospheres [smaller]Ah-ah-ah, ah-ah-ah-ah, aaah[/smaller] And then the jukebox plays a song I used to know [smaller]Ah-ah-ah, ah-ah-ah-ah, aaah[/smaller] And now I'm staring at the bodies As they're dancing so slow [smaller]Ah-ah-ah, ah-ah-ah-ah, aaah[/smaller] They don't write 'em like that anymore They don't write 'em like that anymore Mmmm, now I wind up staring at an empty glass [smaller]Ah-ah-ah, ah-ah-ah-ah, aaah[/smaller] Cos it's so easy to say That she'll forget your past [smaller]Ah-ah-ah, ah-ah-ah-ah, aaah[/smaller] They don't write 'em like that anymore No, they just don't write 'em like that anymore They don't write 'em like that anymore They just don't write 'em like that anymore They just don't, no, they don't, no no, uh-uh They just don't write 'em like that anymore They just don't

Levis
Do Me A Favour - Arctic Monkeys Well the morning was complete. There were tears on the steering wheel dripping on the seat, Several hours or several weeks, I'd have the cheek to say they're equally as bleak! It's the beginning of the end, the car went up the hill, And disappeared around the bend, ask anyone they'll tell you that. It's these times that it tends, The start to breaking up, to start to fall apart Oh! hold on to your heart. Do me a favour, and break my nose Do me a favour, and tell me to go away Do me a favour, stop asking questions She walked away, well her shoes were untied, And the eyes were all red, You could see that we've cried, and I watched and I waited, 'Till she was inside, forcing a smile and waving goodbye. Curiousity becomes a heavy load, Too heavy to hold, too heavy to hold. Curiousity becomes a heavy load, Too heavy to hold, will force you to be cold. Do me a favour, and break my nose Do me a favour, and tell me to go away Do me a favour, stop asking questions And do me a favour, and ask if you need some help! She said, do me a favour and stop flattering yourself! How to tear apart the ties that bind, perhaps f*ck off, might be too kind, Perhaps f*ck off, might be too kind. Jugband_Blues
edna, i've been in the breeze for a while, but i always knew i'd come back. i left a kid who cared too much about the velvet underground and who wouldn't listen to anything after 1982--and have now come back chock full of incredible 90's albums and the knowledge that you can never care too much about the velvet underground. Uncle Joe
I've Found Someone Of My Own-The Free Movement I got up this morning While I was having my coffee My woman came in, sat down by my side With tears in her eyes She said 'I've a confession to make.' I said 'Woman, speak what's on your mind.' She said 'I've found somebody new To take your place.' 'I said don't feel so all alone I've found someone of my own.' 'All those lonely nights You left me all alone My true love would call And talk to me on the phone.' I said 'Woman, if that's the way it's gotta be Then darlin, don't you worry about me.' She said ' I've found somebody new To take your place.' 'I said don't feel so all alone I've found someone of my own.' I got up from the table Reached down and wiped the tears From her face I put out my cigarette Turned and walked away She said 'I've found somebody new To take your place.' 'I said don't feel so all alone I've found someone of my own.'

Please excuse me, I never meant to break your heart So sorry, I never meant to break your heart But you broke mine Kayleigh is it too late to say Im sorry? And kayleigh could we get it together again? I just cant go on pretending that it came to a natural end Kayleigh, oh I never thought Id miss you And kayleigh I thought that wed always be friends We said our love would last forever So how did it come to this bitter end? Do you remember barefoot on the lawn with shooting stars Do you remember loving on the floor in belsize park Do you remember dancing in stilettoes in the snow Do you remember you never understood I had to go By the way, didnt I break your heart? Please excuse me, I never meant to break your heart So sorry, I never meant to break your heart But you broke mine Kayleigh I just wanna say Im sorry But kayleigh Im too scared to pick up the phone To hear youve found another lover to patch up our broken home Kayleigh Im still trying to write that love song Kayleigh its more important to me now youre gone Maybe it will prove that we were right Or ever prove that I was wrong
