OLD 55 Posted May 29, 2008 Report Posted May 29, 2008 Now I remember Pearl Jam's Black. When Farin and I had our "he nominated 60s, I nominated 90s" in one Top Ten, I consulted Young55 for some ideas, and he said 'what about my favorite Pearl Jam song ?' So I listened to it ( Black). But I said 'thanks son, but it's not really my kind of music'. I've listened to all songs - no surprises here. 1. Up Around The Bend - Creedence Clearwater Revival (1970) 2. Rockaway Beach - Ramones (1977) 3. Walk Away Renee - The Left Banke (1966) 4. Lay Down Sally - Eric Clapton (1977) 5. Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds - The Beatles (1967) 6. OLD 55 Posted May 29, 2008 Report Posted May 29, 2008 I'll just mention that any regulars who missed nominating are most welcome to vote, as Joe just did. I'm not completely comfortable with my decision to allow Ledjam's votes to count. I initially wasn't going to, but when I went back through the Tens I found a precedent had been set by allowing him to do so before. Anyway, the decision has been taken.
Dappled Posted May 29, 2008 Report Posted May 29, 2008 9-Whichever Rolling Stones song gets the most votes. I think you should bet on Singer not the Song
c_s_1987 Posted May 29, 2008 Report Posted May 29, 2008 1. Black - Pearl Jam (1991) 2. Belfast Child - Simple Minds (1989) (Most weeks, this would get my #1 vote. It’s in my Personal Top Fifty). 3. bazooka Posted May 29, 2008 Report Posted May 29, 2008 1. I'm A Lonesome Fugitive - Merle Haggard & The Strangers .. This may be the only vote for Haggard. I think many of my contemporaries will always hold a grudge over Okie From Muskogee. I never tolerated much C&W, but must admit some of Merle's earlier stuff is loaded with je ne sais quoi. 2. Function At The Junction - Shorty Long 3. Day Of The Eagle - Robin Trower 4. Hypnotized - Fleetwood Mac 5. Higher Love - Steve Winwood 6. Black - Pearl Jam 7. Do It Again - The Kinks 8. MindCrime Posted May 29, 2008 Report Posted May 29, 2008 I think you should bet on Singer not the Song And so it is. I'm thinking about nominating one of their later hits next (any artists) Ten, if there aren't alot of other nominated songs, of course.
OLD 55 Posted May 30, 2008 Report Posted May 30, 2008 Thanks for reminding me Mindcrime. Next week will be a "NO #1's Top Ten", i.e. Artists/Groups who have made #1 in our Top Ten are not eligible to be nominated. They are all shown in red in the Artists' section of Every Song That's Made The Songfactors' Choice Top Tens. We'll resume 'open' Top Tens in #119.
OLD 55 Posted May 30, 2008 Report Posted May 30, 2008 If Black makes it, it'll be our first 90s #1 since Are You Gonna Go My Way in Top Ten #72, and it'd be good for the Ten to see that. Great nomination Tim. You went close with Lithium last week and may go one better this time. Couldn't happen to a nicer young man.
TheLizard Posted May 30, 2008 Report Posted May 30, 2008 Thanks Darryl, you're a pretty nice young man yourself.
