The Songfactors' Choice: Best Lovesongs and Ballads

Recommended Posts

Leaving some great tunes behind, I decided to nominate a very emotional and moving love song:

The Blower's Daughter ~ Damien Rice (Video) (Songfacts)

And so it is

Just like you said it should be

We'll both forget the breeze

Most of the time

And so it is

The colder water

The blower's daughter

The pupil in denial

I can't take my eyes off of you

I can't take my eyes off you

Give it a listen, most of you will like it!

Flowers in the Window ~ Travis Video

(the video is kinda peculiar and doesn't really have much to do with the song :P;) )

When I first held you I was cold

A melting snowman I was told

But there was no-one there to hold before

I swore that I would be alone for ever more

Wow look at you now

Flowers in the window

It's such a lovely day

And I'm glad you feel the same

Cause to stand up, out in the crowd

You are one in a million

And I love you so

Lets watch the flowers grow

Two Princes - Spin Doctors

Yeeeah

One, two, princes kneel before you

(that's what I said, now)

Princes, Princes who adore you

(Just go ahead, now)

One has diamonds in his pockets

(And that's some bread, now)

This one, said he wants to buy you a rocket

(Ain't in his head, now)

This one, he got a princely racket

(That's what I said, now)

Got some big seal upon his jacket

(Ain't in his head, now)

You marry him, your father will condone you

(how bout that, now)

You marry me, your father will disown you

(he'll eat his hat, now)

Marry him or marry me,

I'm the one that loves you baby can't you see?

I ain't got no future or a family tree,

But I know what a prince and lover ought to be,

I know what a prince and lover ought to be

Said, if you want to call me baby

(Just go ahead, now)

An' if you'd like to tell me maybe

(Just go ahead, now)

An' If you wanna buy me flowers

(Just go ahead, now)

And if you'd like to talk for hours

(Just go ahead, now)

Bohemian Like You - The Dandy Warhols

(Parental Advisory)

You've got a great car,

Yeah, what's wrong with it today?

I used to have one too,

Maybe I'll come and have a look.

I really love your hairdo,Yeah,

I'm glad you like mine too,

See where lookin' pretty cool will get ya.

So what do you do?

Oh yeah I wait tables too.

No I haven't heard your band,

Cause you guys are pretty new.

But if you dig on Vegan food,

Well come over to my work,

I'll have them cook you something that you'll really love,

Cause I like you,

Yeah, I like you,

And I'm feeling so Bohemian like you,

Yeah, I like you,

Yeah, I like you,

And I feel wahoo, wooo

Wohoo hoo hoo

Wohoo hoo hoo

Wohoo hoo hoo

Wohoo hoo hoo

Out The Blue -- John Lennon

Out the blue you came to me

And blew away life's misery

Out the blue life's energy

Out the blue you came to me

Drops of Jupiter (Tell Me) -- Train

Tell me did you sail across the sun?

Did you make it to the Milky Way to see the lights all faded

And that heaven is overrated

Tell me, did you fall for a shooting star

One without a permanent scar

And did you miss me while you were looking for yourself out there?

I am such a mush....I could fill up a page, but I will restrict myself. I'm also trying to pick songs I won't have on my personal Top Ten

Have I Told You Lately - Van Morrison

Have I told you lately that I love you?

Have I told you there's no one else above you?

Fill my heart with gladness

Take away my sadness

Ease my trouble, that's what you do

Chasing Cars - Snow Patrol (does this surprise anybody?)

I don't quite know

How to say

How I feel

Those three words

Are said too much

They're not enough

Flowers in the Window ~ Travis

My feelings for Travis have been well documented, but I really love Flowers in the Window in particular.

This is going to be hard-we've got a good mix of old and new.

Coming Back to Me - Jefferson Airplane

The summer had inhaled

And held its breath too long.

The winter looked the same,

As if it had never gone,

And through an open window,

Where no curtain hung,

I saw you, I saw you,

Coming back to me.

One begins to read between

The pages of a book.

The sound of sleepy music,

And suddenly, you're hooked.

I saw you, I saw you,

Coming back to me.

You came to stay and live my way,

Scatter my love like leaves in the wind.

You always say that you won't go away,

But I know what it always has been,

It always has been.

A transparent dream

Beneath an occasional sigh

Most of the time,

I just let it go by.

Now I wish it hadn't begun.

I saw you, I saw you,

Coming back to me.

Strolling the hill,

Overlooking the shore,

I realize I've been here before.

The shadow in the mist

Could have been anyone

I saw you, I saw you,

Coming back to me.

Small things like reasons

Are put in a jar.

Whatever happened to wishes,

Wished on a star?

Was it just something

That I made up for fun?

I saw you, I saw you,

Coming back to me.

Today - Jefferson Airplane

Today I feel like pleasing you more than before

Today I know what I want to do but I don't know what for

To be living for you is all I want to do

To be loving you it'll all be there when my dreams come true

Today you'll make me say that I somehow have changed

Today you'll look into my eyes, I'm just not the same

To be anymore than all I am would be a lie

I'm so full of love I could burst apart and start to cry

Today everything you want, I swear it all will come true

Today I realize how much I'm in love with you

With you standing here I could tell the world what it means to love

To go on from here I can't use words, they don't say enough

Please, please listen to me

It's taken so long to come true

And it's all for you

all for you....

Surrealistic Pillow had Somebody to Love and White Rabbit, great songs that became famous. But the album also had 2 very beautiful ballads, love songs, that became my personal favourites: Today and Coming Back to Me. I couldn't decide which I like best, so I'll nominate both. :)

Anyone else here know Robert Wyatt's "Rock Bottom"? It has some great love songs on it.

Yes, my friend had that album in the mid-seventies. I always liked Wyatt a lot. But I don´t remember the title of the tracks...
