Lucky
WELCOME TO THE SONGFACTORS' CHOICE: TOP TEN LOVE SONGS and BALLADS of ALL TIME *ALL MEMBERS OF SONGFACTS ARE INVITED TO PARTICIPATE * Join us, and share your knowledge and your love of the thing that keeps SONGFACTS the community we all know and love, MUSIC ! The basic guidelines are simple.... * The Songfactors' Music of Choice is decided by your nominations and votes. For each edition we'll ask that you nominate 1 OR 2 selections that meet the guidelines for that edition. * With each nomination, we ask that you give us a review, a few thoughts or just a description of how your selection makes you feel. No one is being graded on their writing here. What we want is for you to share your knowledge and feelings about the music you love. * Each edition will run about 3 weeks or so. At the end of that time, we'll ask you to vote, and you know how that works! These lists will number 5, so we'll ask that you compile your list of 5 choices for the final Songfactor's Music of Choice. We will tally them, just like The Songfactors' Choice Top Ten, 1 through 5. At the close of voting, we will have our Songfactors' Music of Choice. * Be as creative with this as you'd like. We want to encourage an exchange of thoughts, so this will be a place to learn about and enjoy the nominations, as well as the final choices. The guidelines will change with each edition. ..... So, here we go ..... THE SONGFACTORS' CHOICE: Top Ten Love Songs and Ballads of All Time **NOTE: After much (stress much) discussion we went with songs this time, and this theme is easy and different. Everybody has a couple of favorite love songs, the ones that get to you everytime you hear them. Easy (or hard) enough to choose a list of ten, so we're going with a Top Ten this time. Sound good? Good. GIVE US YOUR NOMINATIONS NOW! Edited August 26, 2008 by Guest title
The Seeker
Does it have to be a happy love song, or are "I love her but she doesn't love me" songs also eligible?
Lucky
Nope, there's a whole lot about love that's not happy. There are no restrictions that I forsee.
Lea
You want a review with the nomanations not the winners? This was easy for me. I love love songs
Lucky
It would be nice to hear your thoughts about the songs with the nominations. We thought this would be easy and different. We neglect those songs in a lot of ways, and there are lots of great ones.
Lea
My first one will be Hearts by Marty Balin. This song brings back some very rough memories for me. I will try not to get to wordy with it or to personal. It will be tough tho . I think this could be a very sad top ten listening to all the nominated heartbreak songs but then, that could just be me. I love the idea tho.
_Laurie_
When A Man Loves A Woman ~ Percy Sledge ~ 1966 (My favorite love song to slow dance to. And wow, what a voice he had!) When a man loves a woman, Can't keep his mind on nothing else He'll trade the world for the good thing he's found If she's bad he can't see it, she can do no wrong Turn his back on his best friend if he put her down Bell Bottom Blues ~ Derek And The Dominoes ~ 1970 From: Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs (A very heart wrenching song, such sad lyrics..) Bell bottom blues, you made me cry. I don't want to lose this feeling. And if I could choose a place to die It would be in your arms.
Farin
R.E.M. has a very nice love song besides "The One I Love" () At My Most Beautiful ~ R.E.M. I found a way to make you I found a way a way to make you smile...
edna
"To Love Somebody" - Bee Gees What can I say? One of my favorite songs by one my favorite singers/writers. A sad sight on love. "She" - Elvis Costello The original is by Charles Aznavour, in English (he and Herbert Kretzmer are the authors). But I prefer this version. It´s just so beautiful and so simple, the way he explains what she means to him... EDIT: I´m sorry, I edited my previous post and deleted it... (it´s almost midnight, we´re having a brownie, etc) Well, my previous post wasn´t important at all anyways...
skybluesky
I nominate my two favorite love songs~ God Only Knows-The Beach Boys With lilting melodies and a simple, to the point declaration of love, God Only Knows is one of the most beautiful pop songs ever recorded. Buckets of Rain-Bob Dylan Bob Dylan's usual word play makes something as intricate as love seem easy and sunny and light, yet full of complexity. I like the smile in your fingertips I like the way that you move your hips I love the cool way you look at me Everything about you is bringing me misery
Foolonthehill
can I nominate a Jazz ballad? like "Naima" by John Coltrane?
Tenacious_Peaches
Both are dedicated to the love of my life, the fantastic Mr. Peaches... Let's Stay Together - Al Green I, I'm so in love with you Whatever you want to do Is all right with me 'Cause you make me feel so brand new And I want to spend my life with you They say since, baby, since we've been together Loving you forever Is what I need Let me be the one you come running to I'll never be untrue Let's, let's stay together Lovin' you whether, whether Times are good or bad, happy or sad Whether times are good or bad, happy or sad Sweet Life - Paul Davis She's got your eyes She's got my nose Oh, and I get high just watching her grow We always dreamed we'd live in a castle, oh but We're in the same old shack Sometimes we get into a hassle But we always take each other back Oh, you know This whole world seem to be in a hurry But darlin' we'll just keep on taking our time 'Cause we're living such a sweet life, oh what a neat life Sharing my love with you Oh, we're living such a sweet life, oh what a neat life making our dreams come true we're makin our dreams come true

Shawna
Silver Springs ~ Fleetwood Mac For Lindsey from Stevie, her last ditch attempt at hope for their relationship, after which he slapped her with "Go Your Own Way." In my personal experience, this song was parallel to my love life. I was dating someone in my senior year, and then one day he decided to go back to his old girlfriend, and I didn't find out until the deed was done. It hurt - a lot So the song's message of "don't say that she loves you, baby I don't wanna know." And "Time cast a spell on you that you won't forgoet me" were all very in-the-moment for me. Plus the fact that it's a hauntingly beautiful song.
Viaene
Invincible ~ Muse (Video) During the struggle They will pull us down But please, please Let's use this chance To turn things around And tonight We can truly say Together we're invincible Everytime I hear it the power of these words strike me.. For my second nomination it's between "Golf Girl" by Caravan and "Lady Fantasy" by Camel. I'll decide once I see some others.

Foolonthehill
Alright then Edna I'll nominate Golf Girl- Caravan for my second. Standing on a golf course Dressed in PVC I chanced upon a Golf Girl Selling cups of tea She asked did I want one Asked with a grin For three pence you can buy one Full right to the brim And so of course I had to have one In fact I ordered three So I could watch the Golf Girl Could see she fancied me And later on the golf course After drinking tea It started raining golf balls She protected me Her name was Pat We sat Under a tree She kissed me We go for walks In fine weather Altogether On the golf course We talk in morse
