The Songfactors' Choice Top Ten #113

Recommended Posts

This was written about Andrew Wood, lead singer of the Seattle group Mother Love Bone, who died of an heroin-overdose in 1990.

 :(

Some would say your life was sad

But you lived it anyway

And so maybe

Your friends they stand around they watch you crumble

As you falter to the ground

And then someday

Your friends they stand beside as you were flying

Oh you were flying oh so high

...

Now maybe brother, maybe love

I didn't mean to treat you bad

But you left me far behind

Left me far behind

Left me far

Behind

Roll With It - Oasis (14 August 1995)

Country House - Blur (14 August 1995)

Blur's label Food Records moved the original release date to be on the same day as Oasis' "Roll With It". The British media had already reported an intense rivalry between the two bands and this clash of releases was seen as a battle for the number one spot. "Country House" won Blur the battle ("Roll With It" coming in at No. 2 and having significantly smaller sales) but they lost the war as The Great Escape was beaten by Oasis' album (What's the Story) Morning Glory on sales.
