Levis
Mysterious DVD = Stories behind each of the songs + promo video for Lyla. not a waste then because Noel and Andy do most of the talking and everyone knows they're among my favourite music people. blind-fitter
A couple of weeks ago, in Manchester, I had a whale of a time in a shop called Vinyl Exchange, from which I emerged with seven CD albums, for a measly total outlay of £16.50. Amazingly, all of these albums, apart from one, was an item which I have coveted / wishlisted at some point or other. Mogwai: "Happy Songs For Happy People" (£4) Ikara Colt: "Chat & Business" (£2) Flipper "Sex Bomb Baby" (£2) Flipper "Gone Fishing" (£2) Cate Le Bon: "Me Oh My" (£3)(voted one of the Top albums of 2009 in Mojo) Ben Folds: "Rocking The Suburbs" (£3) The remaining one, "Causers OF THis" by Toro Y Moi, I bought because one track from it had been featured in a recent SF TopTen. While I was paying for the others, I spotted, in amongst a rummage-box of assoerted promo-discs, a promo copy of "Causers Of This" for 50p, i.e half a pound; that's about the cost of a blank disc, or, I dunno, a small bar of chocolate, or two cigarettes...pretty damned cheap anyway. Unfortunately, so far, I don't like it. Early impressions are: it's crap. But it was so cheap it hardly matters. Then, yesterday morning, I bought 3 ridiculously cheap CD albums - 50p each, they were. Mercury Rev: "Deserter Songs" Have only listened to this hugely critically acclaimed album the once, but found it to be utterly atrocious. Mojave 3: "Spoon & Rafter" Quite nice in an understated dream pop/country rock Sparklehorsey kind of way. Possibly a grower. Otis Lee Crenshaw: "How Do We Do It?" This is laugh-out loud funny and ample compensation for the money I wasted on the Mercury Rev debacle.
