Earth-Angel
"Two Coins" I stick loneliness, your lips and the two coins of your eyes into my pockets well the train skates into Port Henry late sunday sometimes when I'm riding high feeling fine you know there's something troubling yah, troubling my mind so I reach into my pocket for some small change I reach into my pocket for some small change I want bones like iron, blood like mercury so I can tell you when I'm rising and when I'm sinking in [CHORUS] we're gonna take it to the people hey let's drink from the cup share some luck go ahead and laugh cause it don't cost much I stick loneliness, your lips and the two coins of your eyes into my pockets Coins were usually placed on the eyes of the dead to pay the ferryman who takes you across the River Styx. Perhaps the singer is mourning the loss of someone he loved, but it getting on with life now he realises the difference in the value of small change and 2 coins that are currency in the afterlife is so significantly different. There are a lot of references to currency - "two coins from your eyes", "I reach into my pocket for some small change", "go ahead and laugh cause it don't cost much". I like these lines specifically: "I want bones like iron, blood like mercury so I can tell you when I'm rising and when I'm sinking in" Perhaps it is also a fear of dying, wanting to be composed of materials that will not perish, that he won't need 2 coins to take him across the river. There is also a slightly reckless look at life - "we're gonna take it to the people hey let's drink from the cup share some luck go ahead and laugh cause it don't cost much" I guess there are a number of different possible meanings for this one, it seems simple at first - but there is quite a lot to look into here. Jenny
I took it to mean that the singer carries the memory of his loved one around all the time, in his pocket, and when he's feeling down, he can just reach in and think of her. As for where you can find an "official" interpretation, I don't know. Maybe Google or try the band's website.
Earth-Angel
This is one of those old questions I usually look through and see if I can answer - they're all there on the back pages, so if anyone can take a stab at solving some of them...
