Songs Mentioning Aging

Jim Croce didn't get too old, but he did address the question:

"Age"

"Careful Man"

"A Long Time Ago"

"Five Short Minutes"

Then there's Bonnie Raitt's "Nick of Time"

Crosby, Sills & Nash: "Wasted On The Way"

John Fogerty: "I Saw It On TV, Premonition"

And, the longest reach of all: "Won't Get Fooled Again" by The Who. :beatnik:

There's a line from the acoustic version of The Beatles' "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" that goes something like:

"I watch from the wings of the play you are staging,

While I'm sitting here doing nothing but aging."

Shame George left it out - that's one of his better lyrics.

Old Man by Randy Newman

Everyone has gone away

Can you hear me? can you hear me?

No one cared enough to stay

Can you hear me? can you hear me?

You must remember me old man

I know that you can if you try

So just open up your eyes old man

Look who's come to say goodbye

The sun has left the sky old man

The birds have flown away

And no one came to cry old man

Goodbye old man goodbye

You want to stay i know you do

But it ain't no use to try

'cause i'll be here-and i'm just like you

Goodbye, old man, goodbye

Won't be no god to comfort you

You taught me not to believe that lie

You don't need anybody

Nobody needs you

Don't cry, old man, don't cry

Everybody dies

"Edge of Seventeen" - Stevie

"So, with the slow, graceful flow of age

I went forth with an age-old desire to please

on the edge of seventeen."

"Beautiful Child" - Fleetwood Mac

"You fell in love when I was only 10

the years disappeared, much has gone by since then."

Yesterday's Wine ~ Willie Nelson

Miracles appear in the strangest of places

Fancy meeting you here

The last time I saw you was just out of Houston

Sit down, let me buy you a beer

Your presence is welcome with me and my friend here

This is a hangout of mine

We come here quite often and listen to music

Partaking of yesterday’s wine

Yesterday’s Wine, I’m yesterday’s wine

Agin’ with time, like yesterday’s wine

Yesterday’s Wine, well yesterday’s wine

Aging with time, like yesterday’s wine

You give the appearance of one widely traveled

I’ll bet you’ve seen things in your time

So sit down beside me and tell me your story

If you think you’ll like yesterday’s wine

Yesterday’s Wine, well yesterday’s wine

Aging with time, like yesterday’s wine

Yesterday’s Wine, well yesterday’s wine

Aging with time, like yesterday’s wine

Yesterday’s Wine, well yesterday’s wine

Aging with time, like yesterday’s wine

^ That makes me think of:

Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town

I seem to recognize your face, haunting familiar yet I cant seem to place it

Cannot find a candle of thought, to light your name

Lifetimes are catching up with me,

all these changes taking place, I wish I'd seen the place

But no ones ever taken me

Hearts and thoughts they fade, faaaaade away

Hearts and thoughts they fade, faaaaade away

I swear I recognize your breath

Memories like fingerprints are slowly raising,

me, you wouldnt recall, for I'm not my former

Its hard when, your stuck upon the shelf

I changed by not changing at all, small town predicts my fate,

Perhaps thats what no one wants to see,

I just want to scream hello,

My god it's been so long, never dreamed you'd return

Now here you are, and here I am

Hearts and thoughts they fade...away

Hearts and thoughts they fade, fade away

Hearts and thoughts they fade, fade away

Hearts and thoughts they fade, fade away

*sigh* :(
