Perfect song for you would be "Hello In There" by John Prine. I have wanted to nominate that song forever but really don't think it would do well because it folk. Absolutely fantastic song tho. It makes me cry when I hear it.

Hello In There

I can't listen to the vid because DH is here so not sure if this is the one I wanted.

Hello In There-John Prine

We had an apartment in the city,

Me and Loretta liked living there.

It'd been years since the kids had grown,

A life of their own and left us alone.

John and Linda live in Omaha,

And Joe is somewhere on the road.

We lost Davy in the Korean war,

And still don't know what for, don't matter anymore.

Ya know old trees just grow stronger,

And old rivers grow wilder ev'ry day.

Old people just grow lonesome

Waiting for someone to say, "Hello in there, hello."

Me and Loretta, we don't talk much more,

She sits and stares through the back door screen.

And all the news just repeats itself

Like some forgotten dream that we've both seen.

Someday I'll go and call up Rudy,

We worked together at the factory.

But what could I say if asks "What's new?"

Nothing, what's with you? Nothing much to do.

Ya know old trees just grow stronger,

And old rivers grow wilder ev'ry day.

Old people just grow lonesome

Waiting for someone to say, "Hello in there, hello."

So if you're walking down the street sometime

And spot some hollow ancient eyes,

Please don't just pass 'em by and stare

As if you didn't care, say, "Hello in there, hello."

Night Wines ~ Outlaws

Last night I bedded

With a bottle of Beaujeaulais

Trustin' that in time

My blues might drift away

Slumber drew me victim

To the blues water's sweet bouquet

When I woke up this morning

I had a beautiful dream

It'd been the summer

When I was just eighteen

When I turned the lights on

There were ten years in between

It made my heart hunger

To make my years younger

Old Father Time's made up his mind

And circumstance

Good times and bad times

Each weaves its own web

There's no second chance

Now the curtain falls

On still another day

While hopes and dreams hang out

As if the same

Life's too important

Just to let it slip away

It makes my heart hunger

To make my years younger

But Old Father Time's made up his mind

And circumstance

Good times and bad times

Each weaves its own web

There is no second chance

Tonight I will be beddin'

With a bottle of Chardonnay (Chardonnay)

Hoping that in time my blues

Might fade away

Soon fallen victim

To the night wine's sweet bouquet

It makes my heart hunger

To make my years younger

But Old Father Time's made up his mind

And circumstance

Good times and bad times

Each weaves its own web

There is no second chance

Old Father Time's just made up his mind

And circumstance

Good times and bad times

Each weaves its own web

There is no second chance

Lea, I think Tom Waits wrote that. Bette Midler does a good cover.

I can't believe you didn't think of this one yourself

Try Not To Breathe ~ R.E.M.

I will try not to breathe

I can hold my head still with my hands at my knees

These eyes are the eyes of the old, shivering and bold

I will try not to breathe

This decision is mine. I have lived a full life

And these are the eyes that I want you to remember, oh

I need something to fly over my grave again

I need something to breathe

I will try not to burden you

I can hold these inside. I will hold my breath

Until all these shivers subside,

Just look in my eyes

I will try not to worry you

I have seen things that you will never see

Leave it to memory me. I shudder to breathe

I want you to remember, oh (you will never see)

I need something to fly (something to fly)

Over my grave again (you will never see)

I need something to breathe (something to breathe)

Baby, don't shiver now

Why do you shiver now? (I will see things you will never see)

I need something to fly (something to fly)

Over my grave again. (I will see things you will never see)

I need something to breathe, oh, oh, oh, oh

Oh, oh, oh, oh

Oh, oh, oh, oh

Oh, oh, oh, oh

Oh, oh, oh

I will try not to worry you

I have seen things that you will never see

Leave it to memory me. Don't dare me to breathe

I want you to remember, oh (you will never see)

I need something to fly (something to fly)

Over my grave again (you will never see)

I need something to breathe (something to breathe)

Baby, don't shiver now

Why do you shiver? (I will see things you will never see)

I need something to breathe (something to breathe - I have seen things you will

never see)

I want you to remember

"Help The Aged" - Pulp

Help the aged,

One time they were just like you,

Drinking, smoking cigs and sniffing glue.

Help the aged,

Dont just put them in a home,

Can't have much fun in there all on their own.

Give a hand, if you can,

Try and help them to unwind.

Give them hope & give them comfort cos they're running out of time.

In the meantime we try.

Try to forget that nothing lasts forever.

No big deal, so give us all a feel.

Funny how it all falls away.

When did you first realise?

Its time you took an older lover baby.

Teach you stuff,

Although hes looking rough.

Funny how it all falls away.

Help the aged

Cos one day youll be older too

You might need someone who can

Pull you through

And if you look very hard

Behind the lines upon their face,

You may see where you are headed

And its such a lonely place.

You can dye your hair

But its the one thing you cant change.

Cant run away from yourself, yourself...

Funny how it all falls away.

So help the aged.
