Tony Baloni
You know how there's certain singers out there who are pretty bad at singing, but there's something intriguing about their voice, and they make it work for what they do. Like Roger Waters, for example. His voice is far from the textbook definition of beautiful, but I'll be damned if "Don't Leave Me Now" isn't one of the greatest vocal performances in rock. Another one I can think of off the top of my head is Isaac Brock (of Modest Mouse). Any singers out there you can think of who suck in a good way?? The Seeker
Please refrain from throwing heavy objects, but Robert Plant has one of the most annoying voices in music. Tom Petty doesn't always sing too well either.
Levis
Liam Gallagher doesn't have a conventionally attractive voice, either. It's very appealing but it's certainly not what you'd call a good singing voice.
The Seeker
Pete Townshend can sound pretty annoying too.
skybluesky
David Johanssen Michael Stipe can be grating sometimes
Levis
Wait a moment... are we talking about singers who sound annoying or singers who don't sound annoying (the opposite, in fact), despite not having the best voice in the world? skybluesky
I think it's don't suck despite not having the greatest voice, at least that's how I interpreted Toni's post
Batman
Black Francis doesn't have great control or range or whatever else you need to be a respected singer, but he's one of my favorite singers because he just kicks a lot of ass, you know? MindCrime
Farin isn't going to like this... Eddie Veddar; even though he was the voice of his generation. Kurt Cobain & Layne Staley suffered in terms of success & never ventured into consistant live touring. Don Henley (when not backed by Frey & Walsh) Axl Rose, David Lee Roth
ledjam9
Ian Anderson always seemed kinda nasally to me... Especially during live shows. He and Jethro Tull are very good though.

CanAm
Rod Stewart when he sang with The Faces and in his early solo years. It always sounded like he was gargling gravel, but it really suited the raunchy nature of the music he was singing. When he started singing disco and later when he fancied himself an old fashioned crooner, his voice just sucked!
blind-fitter
Ian Curtis fits the bill.
Rayzor
Someone already said Brian Johnson and it's true, if he were there singing alone it would sound like someone having an appendix burst. But with the band and the type of music it fits just right. I'd even include AC/DC's first singer Bon Scott, because although his voice was not as rough it's not like he had any voice training. He knew how to entertain the crowd tho!
