Not For You ~ Pearl Jam

Restless soul, enjoy your youth

Like Muhammad, hits the truth

Can't escape from the common rule

If you hate something, don't you do it too...too...

Small my table, sits just two

Got so crowded, I can't make room

Oh, where did they come from? Stormed my room!

And you dare say it belongs to you...to you...

This is not for you

This is not for you

This is not for you

Oh, not for you...ah, you...

...Scream...my friends...don't call me...

...Friends, no they don't scream...

...My friends don't call...my friends don't...

All that's sacred, comes from youth

Dedication, naive and true

With no power, and f*ckin' nothing to do

I still remember, why don't you...don't you...

This is not for you

This is not for you

This is not for you

Oh, never was for you...f*ck you...

This is not for you...

Oh, this is not for you...yeah, you...

This is not for you...

Oh, not for you...

Oh, you...

"News Of The World" - The Jam

(not one of their best, but it fits the theme pretty well)

Read about the things that happen throughout the world

Don't be believe in everything you see or hear

The neighbours talk day in day out about the goings on

They tell us what they want - they don't give an inch

Look at the pictures taken by the cameras they cannot lie

The truth is in what you see - not what you read

Little men tapping things out - points of view

Remember their views are not the gospel truth

Don't believe it all

Find out for yourself

Check before you spread

News of the world

Never doubt

Never ask

Never moan

Never search

Never find

Never know

Each morning our key to the world comes through the door

More than often its just a comic, not much more

Don't take it too serious - not many do

Read between the lines and you'll find the truth

Read all about it, read all about it - news of the world

Horror Movie - The Skyhooks

Watch a horror movie right there on my TV

Horror movie right there on my TV

Horror movie right there on my TV

Shockin' me right out of my brain

Shockin' me right out of my brain

Watch horror movie right there on my TV

Horror movie right there on my TV

Horror movie right there on my TV

Shockin' me right out of my brain

Shockin' me right out of my brain

It's bound to get ya in, get ya under your skin

Hit you right on the chin, oh yeah

It's bound to be a thriller, it's bound to be a chiller

It's bound to be a killer, oh yeah

Watch a horror movie right there on my TV

Horror movie right there on my TV

Horror movie right there on my TV

Shockin' me right out of my brain

Shockin' me right out of my brain

The planes are a-crashin', the cars are a-smashin'

They come for a-bashin', oh yeah

The kids are a-fightin', the fires are a-lightin'

The dogs are a-bitin', oh yeah

Watch a horror movie right there on my TV

Horror movie right there on my TV

Horror movie right there on my TV

Shockin' me right out of my brain

Shockin' me right out of my brain

You think it's just a movie on a silver screen

And they're all actors and fake each scene

Maybe you dont care whose gonna lose or win

Listen to this and I'll tell you somethin'

It's a horror movie right there on my TV

Horror movie right there on my TV

Horror movie and there's known abuse

Horror movie, it's the six-thirty news

Horror movie, it's the six-thirty news

The public's waitin' for the killin' and the hatin'

Switch on the station, oh yeah

They do a lot a-sellin' between the firin' and the yellin'-a

"5.45" - Gang of Four

(Well worth checking out: I can even help you to source it, if you 're interested.)

How can I sit and eat my tea,

with all that blood flowing from the television.

At a quarter to six,

I watch the news,

Eating, eating all my food

As I sit watching the red spot

In the egg which looks like

All the blood you don't see on the television.

Still body now, no movement yet

Five men lie dead, flat on their backs

Were they born to lie in state,

Defend the ever stagnant great?

Down on the street, assassinate

All of them look so desperate

Declared blood war on the bourgeois state

Watch new blood on the 18 inch screen

The corpse is a new personality

Ionic charge gives immortality

The corpse is a new personality

Down on the street assassinate

All of them look so desperate

Declared blood war on the bourgeois state

Watch new blood on the 18 inch screen

The corpse is a new personality

Watch new blood on the 18 inch screen

The corpse is a new personality

Watch new blood on the 18 inch screen

The corpse is a new personality

Watch new blood on the 18 inch screen

The corpse is a new personality

Watch new blood on the 18 inch screen

The corpse is a new personality

Guerilla war struggle is a new entertainment

Guerilla war struggle is a new entertainment

Guerilla war struggle is a new entertainment

Guerilla war struggle is a new entertainment

Guerilla war struggle is a new entertainment

Guerilla war struggle is a new entertainment

Guerilla war struggle is a new entertainment

Guerilla war struggle is a new entertainment

Down on the street assassinate

All of them look so desperate

Declared blood war on the bourgeois state

"The Sun Says" - Cock Sparrer

We got Reds under the bed,

We got lovelies nude and tanned,

We got the wife of a mass murderer,

And we only paid her ten grand.

We got Samantha Fox, we got lots of sport,

We got scroungers full of greed.

"You Scum" is the headline

For you and your kids to read

The Sun says, The Sun says

"We're gonna look after you"

The Sun says, The Sun says

So it must be true.

We got talk, we got Lady Di,

We got rapists in the dock.

And best of all we got John Blake,

Who knows everything about Rock.

So if you wanna know what's going on,

And who's kissing who,

It don't cost much for a jolly good read

And lots of pictures too.

Gotcha! Stick it up yer Junta!

Bingo! Win a Metro!

Don Henley

Dirty Laundry

I make my living off the evening news

Just give me something-something I can use

People love it when you lose,

They love dirty laundry

Well, I coulda been an actor, but I wound up here

I just have to look good, I dont have to be clear

Come and whisper in my ear

Give us dirty laundry

Kick em when theyre up

Kick em when theyre down

Kick em when theyre up

Kick em when theyre down

Kick em when theyre up

Kick em when theyre down

Kick em when theyre up

Kick em all around

We got the bubble-headed-bleach-blonde who

Comes on at five

She can tell you bout the plane crash with a gleam

In her eye

Its interesting when people die-

Give us dirty laundry

Can we film the operation?

Is the head dead yet?

You know, the boys in the newsroom got a

Running bet

Get the widow on the set!

We need dirty laundry

You dont really need to find out whats going on

You dont really want to know just how far its gone

Just leave well enough alone

Eat your dirty laundry

Kick em when theyre up

Kick em when theyre down

Kick em when theyre up

Kick em when theyre down

Kick em when theyre up

Kick em when theyre down

Kick em when theyre stiff

Kick em all around

Dirty little secrets

Dirty little lies

We got our dirty little fingers in everybodys pie

We love to cut you down to size

We love dirty laundry

We can do the innuendo

We can dance and sing

When its said and done we havent told you a thing

We all know that crap is king

Give us dirty laundry!

Cover Of The Rolling Stone

Well we're big rock singers we got golden fingers

And we're loved everywhere we go

We sing about beauty and we sing about truth

At ten thousand dollars a show

We take all kinda pills that give us all kinda thrills

But the thrill we never know

Is the thrill that'll gitcha when ya get your picture

On the cover of the Rolling Stone

Chorus:

Gonna see my picture on the cover

Gonna buy five copies for my mother

Gonna see my smilin' face

On the cover of the Rolling Stone

I got a freaky ol' lady name of Cocaine Katy

Who embroideries on my jeans

I got my poor ol' grey haired daddy

Drivin' my limousine

Now it's all designed to blow our minds

But our minds won't never be blown

Like the blow that'll gitcha when ya get your picture

On the cover of the Rolling Stone

(Chorus)

We got a lotta little teen-age blue-eyed groupies

Who'll do anything we say

We got a genuine Indian guru

He's teachin' us a better way

We got all the friends that money can buy

So we never have to be alone

And we keep gettin' richer but we can't get our picture

On the cover of the Rolling Stone

(Chorus - Ad libs)

INXS' "Listen Like Thieves" makes references to radio news, so does Jason's Mraz's "The Remedy".

Some songs I can think of that are about the media, from a celebrity's point of view are "Piece Of Me" by Britney Spears and "The Ballad Of John And Yoko" by the Beatles.

The Ballad Of John and Yoko

(Much of it anyway)

Standing in the dock at Southampton,

Trying to get to Holland or France.

The man in the mac said, "You've got to go back".

You know they didn't even give us a chance.

Christ you know it ain't easy,

You know how hard it can be.

The way things are going

They're gonna crucify me.

Finally made the plane into Paris,

Honey mooning down by the Seine.

Peter Brown called to say,

"You can make it O.K.,

You can get married in Gibraltar, near Spain".

Christ you know it ain't easy,

You know how hard it can be.

The way things are going

They're gonna crucify me.

Drove from Paris to the Amsterdam Hilton,

Talking in our beds for a week.

The newspaper said, "Say what you doing in bed?"I said, "We're only trying to get us some peace".

Christ you know it ain't easy,

You know how hard it can be.

The way things are going

They're gonna crucify me.

Saving up your money for a rainy day,

Giving all your clothes to charity.

Last night the wife said,

"Oh boy, when you're dead

You don't take nothing with you

But your soul - think!"

Made a lightning trip to Vienna,

eating chocolate cake in a bag.

The newspaper said, "She's gone to his head,

They look just like two gurus in drag".

Christ you know it ain't easy,

You know how hard it can be.

The way things are going

They're gonna crucify me.

Caught the early plane back to London.

Fifty acorns tied in a sack.

The men from the press said, "We wish you success,

It's good to have the both of you back".

Christ you know it ain't easy,

You know how hard it can be.

The way things are going

They're gonna crucify me.The way things are going

They're gonna crucify me.

not really about the media, but about people in the media who think they have to be famous at all costs

Teddy Picker ~ Arctic Monkeys

Despair up to the point where they provoke

The punchline before they have told the joke,

Can see your desperation to be seen,

Staring at the television screen.

Despair up to the point where they provoke

You to tell the f*cking punchline before you have told the joke.

Sorry sunshine, it doesn't exist,

It wasn't in the top 100 list.

And it's the thousandth time and it's even bolder,

Don't be surprised when you get bent over,

They told ya, but you were dying for it.

She saw it and she grabbed it and it wasn't what it seemed,

The kids all dream of "making it", whatever that means.

Another variation on a theme,

A tangle on the television and the magazine.

D'you reckon that they do it for a joke?

D'you reckon that they make 'em take an oath?

That says "We are defenders

Of any poseur or professional pretender around."

When did your list replace the twist and turn?

And the fist, replace the kiss?

Don't concern us with your bollocks, I don't want your prayers,

Save it for the morning after.

And it's the thousandth time and it's even bolder,

Don't be surprised when you get bent over,

He told ya, that you were gagging for it.

Let's have a game on the Teddy Picker,

Not quick enough, can I have it quicker?

Already thick and you're getting thicker.

Let's have a game on the Teddy Picker,

Not quick enough, can I have it quicker?

Already thick and you're getting thicker.

Presuming that all things are equal,

Who'd want to be men of the people

When there's people like you?
