Catherine
I never thought most of Tom's songs were about drugs, but the "Don't Come Around Here No More" video is based on Alice in Wonderland, which was written under the influence of opiates. That song and "Last Dance With Mary Jane" are really the only songs I can think of that would contain drug references. Well, "Running Down a Dream" does seem like an acid trip. When I think of Tom Petty, the songs I recall are Refugee, Breakdown, You Got Lucky, Woman in Love, I Need to Know, etc...they aren't about, or don't seem to be about drugs. Carl
Here's the info we received: Tom got the idea for this one from a pilot he saw on TV. The pilot said how it wasn't hard learning to fly.. the hardest part was coming down. We'll try to get this on Songfacts in our next update. scott
It just seems to be a real "thinker" song( at least to me it is!) it really is a great beautiful song though, I remember when I saw him last summer (it was awesome) he streched it into a fifteen minute event, you ain't seen nutin' till you experience an entire civic center singing along perfectly (almost)
