Don't Try to Lay No Boogie Woogie on the King of Rock & Roll by Long John Baldry - pure classic rock, rarely heard on radio anytime even when it first came out let alone now but remembered fondly by many of us.

... [smallest] a fairly recent addition on YouTube [/smallest] :

Bazooka --

"Knowing that it's hard to find

Subways back in the Mind..."

Yes, I remember Martha Lorraine, saw Joe & The Fish at the Fillmore East with Pigmeat Markham and Blue Cheer, OMG. Several Hundred years ago. I like the rest of your picks, too.

How about a shout out for THE most ignored and underplayed band of all time, Family.

"House at Pooniel Corners" by the Airplane? Check your TV, it's still happening...

As for the most under-rated singer in rock history... My choice is Rodriguez... It's almost a crime by how ignored he has been... The other interesting fact is that he is American (the home of big dollar promotional power)...

I invite everyone here to listen to some of his stuff, if you can find it...

To get an idea of his lyrical power, check out the lyrics of "Cause" below.

All Hail you Rodriguez... Ave Ave Ave...

May the world learn to love you as you so rightly deserve.

CAUSE

Cause I lost my job two weeks before Christmas

And I talked to Jesus at the sewer

And the Pope said it was none of his God-damned business

While the rain drank champagne

My Estonian Archangel came and got me wasted

Cause the sweetest kiss I ever got is the one I've never tasted

Oh but they'll take their bonus pay to Molly McDonald,

Neon ladies, beauty is that which obeys, is bought or borrowed

Cause my heart's become a crooked hotel full of rumours

But it's I who pays the rent for these fingered-face out-of-tuners

and I make 16 solid half hour friendships every evening

Cause your queen of hearts who is half a stone

And likes to laugh alone is always threatening you with leaving

Oh but they play those token games on Willy Thompson

And give a medal to replace the son of Mrs. Annie Johnson

Cause they told me everybody's got to pay their dues

And I explained that I had overpaid them

So overdued I went to the company store

and the clerk there said that they had just been invaded

So I set sail in a teardrop and escaped beneath the doorsill

Cause the smell of her perfume echoes in my head still

Cause I see my people trying to drown the sun

In weekends of whiskey sours

Cause how many times can you wake up in this comic book and plant flowers?

Wow, that blows my mind. Growing up CT, we had a radion station that had "Stairway Day" once a year. 24 hours of it, back to back, no commercial interruptions. It was cool for the first hour or so, but then I'd slowly start to go insane. Sure, I'd change the station, but I couldn't help but go back to it every so often. I was drawn to it by the power of the bustle in my hedgerow.

Strangely enough, I agree, whether that was a serious statement or not... in terms of radio airplay here, it is underplayed. :P

No I wasn't kidding. I think people that happen to mention that that tune is overplayed is just agreeing with the masses (aka, too chickenpoop to stand out on their own).

It's true - you rarely hear that tune on the radio. If it was on, then why would I change the dial? It's a great tune that never tires.

My boss and I were just talking about Stairway and Freebird the other day and how FM radio has made you not want to hear those songs. They were so overplayed for many years. They are in rotation at our station, but light rotation. Still get requests every so often for both. But 20 years ago those two songs were on too much.
