blind-fitter
I don't buy enough "new" music for this sort of thing. And I can't select individual songs either. But my albums of the year, as 2007 draws to an end, are.... For sitting, alone, eyes closed, arms resting on the chair-arms, and immersing myself in something raw, beautiful and capable of stirring some kind of emotional experience: "White Chalk" - PJ Harvey "Drums And Guns" - Low I guess those two are my albums of the year. For "rocking out": "Grinderman" - Grinderman For pleasing entertainment and songcraft: "Favourite Worst Nightmare" - Arctic Monkeys and "Public Warning" - Lady Sovereign These are really good albums, but not on a par with my top two in terms of the overall pleasure derived therefrom. Farin
oh, and how could I forget Era Vulgaris ~ QotSA... ? I still have to listen to it some more, but it has the potential to become my second favourite QuotSA album

Batman
never heard of #1,3,5,7 and 9 and I would add "Favourite Worst Nightmare" ~ Arctic Monkeys at least Strawberry Jam is the latest from Animal Collective, and I'd say it's in the top 10 albums of this decade. It's absolutely brilliant, and I definitely reccomend it. Although it may take a few listens, because it's so out there. Listen to "Peacebone" and "Fireworks." Person Pitch is Panda Bear's best solo album (he is a member of Animal Collective), and even if you don't like Animal Collective, I'd still highly reccomend it. Imagine Pet Sounds era Brian Wilson teaming up with Ummagumma era Pink Floyd to create a great feel good summertimey/nautical album. You should listen to "Bros" and "Good Girl/Carrots." I don't really have the time right now to give full reccomendations for the other artists, but Menomena was pretty highly regarded by the indie crowd, though it didn't get very much attention elsewhere, which is too bad because it has some great songwriting. I think you should listen to "Wet and Rusting." Madlib is IMO one of the top 3 hip hop producers of this decade, if not the best, and in this album he only uses samples from Indian films. Definitely not his best work, but still miles ahead of what most hip hop producers are doing right now. I think it's the most underrated album of the year, it got no attention from anyone. And Blitzen Trapper is awesome, although they didn't get a lot of attention from critics, as far as I know. They make feel good alternative/country/psychedelic/whatever music that I actually think a lot of songfactors would like. I think you should listen to "Wild Mountain Nation," and "Devil's a Go Go." And I'm not bothered if you don't listen to all these reccomendations but I really think, for your own sake, that you should check out Animal Collective and Panda Bear's stuff. I promise you won't be dissapointed by Panda Bear, and if you don't hate the Animal Collective album, chances are you'll love it.

Tenacious_Peaches
...taken from Entertainment Weekly Online... The 10 Best Songs of 2007 10. ''Stop Me,'' Mark Ronson It takes quite a guy to get that fussy Morrissey's blessing to remake a Smiths song. But producer Ronson (Lily Allen, Amy Winehouse) was able to do just that. With the help of Australian singer Daniel Merriweather, he turned their mope-rock classic into a haunting dance-floor rapture. 9. ''Icky Thump,'' The White Stripes The red, white, and blues duo tears off a hot chunk of rawk — a testament to the visceral pleasures of Meg 's Muppety drum-pounding and Jack's searing guitar contortions. A dark tale of Mexican adventures gone wrong, the song, like cheap tequila, still burns in a good way. 8. ''Someone Great,'' LCD Soundsystem This unabashedly electro dance tune creeps up sounding like an intriguing sequence of bleeps, buzzes, and beats. Then the next thing you know, you're engrossed in a classic pop song about love and loss: ''I miss the way we used to argue/Locked in your basement.'' 7. ''Thrash Unreal,'' Against Me! Quietly, without much mainstream radio or MTV support, this Gainesville, Fla., quartet amassed a major following on the strength of epic larynx rippers like this one — an anarchic collision of punk aggression and a bouncy ''bah bah bah'' pop chorus. 6. ''Can't Tell Me Nothin','' Kanye West We hear Kanye's been known to make the occasional narcissistic boast. So it's almost subversive to hear him, self-aware, musing about A-list life: ''I feel the pressure, under more scrutiny/And what'd I do? Act more stupidly.'' Meanwhile, the beat — a glistening cascade of organs and vocal samples — might be his most mesmerizing ever. 5. ''Upgrade U,'' Beyoncé (feat. Jay-Z) Both halves of music's power couple pay tribute to the virtues of materialism over a blaring synth-horn backdrop crafted by producer Swizz Beatz. ''Partner, lemme upgrade U, Audemars Piguet U,'' offers Jay's lady friend, name-checking the luxury watchmaker. And who are we to stand in her way? 4. ''LoveStoned/I Think That She Knows,'' Justin Timberlake The dude who brought you-know-what back last year did it one more time in '07 with this spacey jam. It ends with a contemplative coda of echo-chamber guitars, but the meat of the tune is totally jittery, funky lust. Consider us seduced all over again. 3. ''No One,'' Alicia Keys If Keys' wrenching ballad doesn't give you the shivers, then you, friend, have no ears. Or soul. Keys, always lovely and well composed, found something deeper here; her voice hoarse with love and longing, she summoned her most mature and moving composition yet. 2. ''You Know I'm No Good,'' Amy Winehouse Don't be so hard on yourself, Amy. As a matter of fact, we know you're great. Whatever tabloid you end up in next, this tale of infidelity — full of swaggering brass and suggestive lyrics — will be there to remind us why we took notice of you in the first place. 1. ''Umbrella,'' Rihanna (feat. Jay-Z) Will weather protection ever be the same? All it took was one simple, slowed-down drum loop from the music-software program GarageBand (Vintage Funk Kit 03), one legendary ''retired'' rapper (Jay-Z), and one redonkulously hot Barbadian pop songstress (Rihanna). Just add water and...voilà ! Witness the year's most inescapable smash, which indubitably yielded one of its most provocative videos as well — thanks to a saucy rain dance. Farin
hmm... so "Umb-e-rella ella ella eh eh" is the best song? with the "most provocative" video? to me it looked more like another example of your avarage factory made 0815 video - really fits to the song in that regard though :sleepy: but I can agree with the "inescapable"
Tenacious_Peaches
Yeah, but Rhianna is "redonkulously hot", so apparently that makes it okay.
