Jim in Pa
Ie: Different colored vinyl, different speed setting on each side, blank sides, repeated sides, ETC? Heres one/ Grand Funk Railroad- We're an American Band. A transparent gold vinyl album.
edna
Those vinyls are rarities, most of them are promo releases. I had the complete Talking Heads in full colours, pictures, one is transparent, other changes colours as it turns, etc... The only official blank side I know is "Johnny Winter And...", the double album´s 4th side has nothing on it.
Crazy Don
I remember in the 1980's Rhino Records issued a Turtles EP shaped like (you guessed it) a turtle!
Shawna
Somewhere in my parents' house is the clear red vinyl Chipmunks Christmas LP we used to listen to. And in my trunk here I have Bob Seger's "Stranger In Town" as a picture LP. The sound quality was always atrocious, though.
Jim in Pa
I still have that Grand Funk album, and a friend has the Turtles album. The others mentioned so far we have heard of. I'm just curious about how many other odball vinyls of this nature were released, and may still be out there lurking in someones attick, or closet..... MuzikTyme
I remember Alice Cooper's Muscle of Love LP coming out in '72 in a cardboard box looking something like a warehouse package. The vinyl itself was clear with a holographic image of a muscle (bicep) which would turn into a bleeding heart as it spun around the turntable. Pretty cool, to say the least. johnny
I've always wanted a flexi disc . You know, just for the novelty of it....
Lucky
You know, I guess over the years my brain cells have been systematically put out of action. Though I can remember the LP oddities, for the life of me I cannot put my finger on a single specific example. All I get are the oddities of the album's themselves, of course the one we all remember, Cheech & Chongs' Big Bambu that came with the giant-size Rolling Paper! Farin
did I already mention that the LP version of Jazz ist anders comes in a full size pizza-box style case?
Levis
It's a 'classic' already, eh?
Farin
uh? yeah... of course! I mean how old DOES it have to be to be considered a 'classic'?
Lucky
I don't think the age has a thing to do with it. A classic is a classic is a classic. I think your Pizza Box thingie definately qualifies! For some reason I'm reminded of Kramers' Coffee Table Book!
Farin
I think she was mainly referring to the fact that it was released last friday
Lucky
oh well... never mind then. Still though, the originality of the packaging will probably make it classic, it that sense, if no other!
johnny
If always wondered that: Does age make something a classic... ...??
Farin
I certainly hope not! that would mean that any piece of music would be a 'classic' as long as it's older than... 30 years or so
Lucky
Age only makes something old. Many factors go into the term "Classic", I think, age only being one of them, and not necessarily the most important. I think the term encompasses how well the thing represents itself within the terms that it's being looked at.

MuzikTyme
Vintage is also a good word to use regarding age or the thought of trying to forget it.
Sweet Jane 61
When I hear the term vintage, I think of something rare, wonderful and classic....something I would want to have, I love the word vintage. I had The Beatles picture album Sgt Peppers but lost it in my divorce. As messy as a divorce can be, the hardest thing was dividing up the albums. I cried over that more than anything else. MuzikTyme
Talking of divorce: I lost everything . . . except my music . . . That's one thing even the Devil can't take from me.
