Serving as a soldier wasn't all mud/guts/death. Between battles and marching to and fro, there was time off for mischief. I came across the tune/song "Soldier's Joy" in the original soundtrack recording of "Liberty! The American Revolution," where Mark O'Connor played a zippy fiddle/violin-based version. Here is a guitar+banjo version that sounds at home at a Civil War campfire. Since Memorial Day began as "Decoration Day," to honor Civil War soldiers past and present, enjoy a little down time before the next "crash of arms." Jimmy Driftwood put words to this old tune... Guy Clark sang of a wounded soldier's need for some "Soldier's Joy"
